The EH&S Manager is responsible for leading and managing Standard Nuclear’s environmental, health, safety, and radiological protection programs across manufacturing and laboratory operations. This role ensures that all activities are conducted safely and in compliance with company policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
The EH&S Manager provides both strategic direction and hands-on oversight, working closely with operations, engineering, and quality teams to implement effective safety programs and maintain a strong safety culture. The role is accountable for regulatory compliance, program execution, and continuous improvement of EH&S systems as the company scales.
RESPONSIBILITIES
EH&S Program Leadership
- Lead development, implementation, and continuous improvement of EH&S programs across the site
- Establish and maintain policies, procedures, and standards aligned with regulatory requirements and industry best practices
- Ensure integration of EH&S considerations into manufacturing, engineering, and operational activities
- Drive a proactive safety culture across all levels of the organization
Radiological Protection Oversight
- Oversee radiological protection programs, including contamination control, personnel monitoring, and area controls
- Ensure radiological work is conducted in accordance with approved procedures and regulatory expectations
- Provide leadership and guidance to radiological control personnel and activities
- Maintain compliance with applicable DOE and NRC requirements
Regulatory Compliance & Audits
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, safety, and radiological regulations and standards
- Lead preparation for and participation in internal and external audits, inspections, and assessments
- Interface with regulatory agencies as required
- Maintain audit-ready documentation and ensure timely resolution of findings
Incident Management & Risk Mitigation
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Identify hazards and risks across operations and implement mitigation strategies
- Monitor and track safety performance metrics and trends
- Ensure timely reporting and resolution of safety incidents and concerns
Operational & Field Support
- Maintain active presence on the manufacturing floor and in operational areas
- Partner with operations and engineering teams to support safe work planning and execution
- Ensure proper use of PPE, adherence to procedures, and implementation of safety controls
- Support high-risk activities and provide oversight as needed
Team Leadership & Development
- Lead and develop EH&S staff, including specialists and technicians
- Provide training, coaching, and performance management
- Support development and delivery of EH&S and radiological training programs
Systems & Continuous Improvement
- Develop and maintain EH&S systems, tools, and reporting processes
- Identify opportunities to improve safety performance, compliance, and efficiency
- Support scaling of EH&S programs as manufacturing operations grow
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in EH&S within a manufacturing, industrial, or regulated environment
- Experience managing EH&S programs and leading safety teams
- Strong knowledge of EH&S regulations and compliance requirements (OSHA, EPA, DOE/NRC as applicable)
- Experience with radiological protection programs or nuclear environments required
- Proven experience leading incident investigations and implementing corrective actions
- Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work cross-functionally with operations, engineering, and leadership teams
- Experience in nuclear, energy, aerospace, defense, or other regulated industries is reuqired

WORK ENVIRONMENT
This role is based on-site in Oak Ridge, TN and involves regular work in manufacturing, laboratory, and controlled or radiological areas.
The position requires active engagement in operational environments, including presence on the production floor and oversight of field activities. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to EH&S and radiological procedures is required.
