Job description

The Director, IT Business Systems will lead systems strategy and roadmap for each CXO functional area.  In this role, you will also direct the IT Project Management Office (PMO) in a high-growth environment and balance agility with delivery.

This role is responsible for establishing and scaling IT project, program, and portfolio management standards and delivering successful outcomes across:

  • Enterprise business systems (including Acumatica Internal ERP)

  • IT infrastructure and end user services

  • SaaS operations and platform initiatives

  • Data science and business analytics

  • Cybersecurity initiatives

Additionally, the Director of IT Business Systems will lead a team of Business Analysts responsible for driving clarity of business requirements, documenting business processes, championing AI/automation, and communicating IT development priorities.

Many systems are owned, supported, and maintained by independent business units. The Director, IT Business Systems will drive a gradual, pragmatic shift toward greater central IT strategic leadership, consistency, support and shared services—while respecting business unit ownership where it delivers value.

The role also oversees Level 1 and Level 2 enterprise business systems application support, with a primary focus on Acumatica Internal ERP. A key mission is to “dogfood” Acumatica internally ensuring Acumatica Internal ERP is implemented and used as a showcase environment and strong reference for customers, demonstrating best practices and proof of value.

This is a builder/operator role: the leader will design PMO capabilities, processes, and tools from the ground up while managing a complex portfolio of concurrent IT initiatives that directly support and enable Acumatica’s growth.  He/She will maintain the IT roadmap, project status reporting for all of IT, and adherence to the IT Project Development Lifecycle (PDLC). This role reports to the CIO and we're open to hire remotely in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

IT PMO Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead the IT PMO, including maintaining its charter, operating model, and services, in the absence of an existing corporate PMO.

  • Define a phased roadmap to increase central IT’s role in enterprise technology strategy, governance, and support, while collaborating with business units that currently own key systems.

  • Develop and communicate an IT portfolio strategy aligned with Acumatica’s business priorities, SaaS product roadmap, and growth trajectory.

  • Build, lead, and mentor a high-performing team of IT project/program managers, business systems analysts, and PMO staff; establish clear roles, responsibilities and career paths.

  • Serve as the central coordination point for enterprise IT initiatives and prepare for future alignment with a broader enterprise PMO, as the company matures.

Portfolio & Program Management (IT-Focused)

  • Standardize IT project and program portfolio management spanning enterprise applications, infrastructure, SaaS operations, data/analytics, and cybersecurity.

  • Implement portfolio planning and prioritization processes that consider business value, customer impact, risk, capacity, and alignment with Acumatica’s strategic roadmap.

  • Lead execution of select complex, cross-functional IT projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery and realization of business and customer-facing outcomes.

  • Manage interdependencies across projects (e.g., Acumatica Internal ERP and data integrations, infrastructure readiness for product/operations, cybersecurity requirements for new systems).

  • Coordinate with business-unit IT/operations leaders for projects that touch systems they own, ensuring alignment, clear ownership, and minimal disruption.

Governance, Standards & Methodology

  • Establish standardized IT project and program management frameworks (waterfall, agile, hybrid) that support rapid scaling and iterative delivery.

  • Create and oversee governance processes (intake, stage gates, steering committees, change control boards) for major IT initiatives.

  • Develop and enforce standard tools, templates, and KPIs for managing scope, schedule, cost, risk, quality, and change.

  • Harmonize practices across central IT and business unit–managed systems, promoting shared standards where appropriate while allowing for necessary local variation.

Enterprise Business Systems Support (L1 & L2)

  • Provide expert configuration and operations of critical business flows like ticketing, GTM, quote to cash, and HRIS.

  • Own Level 1 and Level 2 support for Acumatica Internal ERP and designated enterprise business systems; coordinate with business units for systems they continue to own.

  • Define ITSM processes, SLAs, and escalation paths to ensure timely incident resolution, service request fulfillment, and problem management.

  • Establish strong collaboration with product and engineering teams to ensure internal Acumatica ERP usage reflects product best practices and informs product improvement.

  • Build and maintain a robust knowledge base and training materials to increase first-contact resolution, reduce recurring issues, and improve user satisfaction.

  • Balance operational support, enhancement work, and strategic project delivery, optimizing resource allocation between “run” and “change” activities.

Internal Dogfooding & Reference Deployment of Acumatica Internal ERP

  • Lead the strategy and roadmap for internal use of Acumatica Internal ERP, ensuring it is configured and utilized as a best-in-class implementation.

  • Partner with Sales, Marketing, Product, and Professional Services to ensure the internal Acumatica Internal ERP environment can serve as a reference, demo, and proof-of-value platform for customers and prospects.

  • Capture and share internal use cases, metrics, and success stories that demonstrate business impact, scalability, and configurability of Acumatica Internal ERP.

  • Ensure lessons learned from internal deployment influence product design, documentation, implementation methodologies, and partner enablement.

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with leaders across business units to translate business and customer objectives into technology roadmaps and requirements.

  • Facilitate IT and cross-functional steering committees, presenting concise, data-driven updates on portfolio status, risks, dependencies, and tradeoffs.

  • Serve as a trusted advisor to the CIO and executive leadership on IT investment prioritization, sequencing, and risk management.

  • Partner with the IT Development team to ensure proposed solutions are aligned with technical standards, feasible within existing system architecture, and implemented effectively to meet business needs.

  • Promote collaboration between central IT, business-unit system owners, data science, analytics, and cybersecurity teams to ensure solutions are integrated, secure, and scalable.

Resource, Financial & Vendor Management

  • Develop and manage the IT Business Systems budget, including staffing, tools, and services.

  • Lead capacity planning and resource management across IT projects and support activities, ensuring realistic commitments in a high-growth environment.

  • Optimize use of external partners, integrators, and SaaS vendors; ensure contracts and SOWs are aligned with project goals and internal standards.

  • Track and report on IT project financials (budgets, forecasts, actuals, and benefits) and support cost trends for both centrally managed and jointly managed systems.

Risk Management, Cybersecurity & Compliance

  • Identify, track, and manage risks and dependencies across the IT portfolio, including maturity, scalability, performance, and change-related risks.

  • Partner with Cybersecurity and Compliance teams to ensure all projects and systems meet cybersecurity and regulatory requirements (e.g., SOC 2, GDPR, and any other relevant standards).

  • Implement consistent risk, issue, and change control practices across IT initiatives and integrate cybersecurity considerations into project lifecycle and governance.

Change Management, Adoption & Continuous Improvement

  • Partner with HR, Communications, and business sponsors to plan and execute change management for new systems, processes, and capabilities.

  • Drive user training, communication, and adoption plans for Acumatica Internal ERP and other enterprise systems, including in business units that maintain local solutions.

  • Implement post-implementation reviews and continuous improvement cycles for both project delivery and support operations.

  • Mature IT PMO capabilities over time—from foundational project control to strategic, enterprise-level portfolio management—aligned with Acumatica’s growth.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, or related field required.

  • Master’s degree (MBA, MS Information Systems, or related) preferred.

  • Relevant certifications strongly preferred: PMP, PgMP, SAFe/Agile certifications, ITIL, and/or equivalent.

  • 8+ years of progressive IT leadership experience, including: 5 years as a technical architect, software developer, or senior systems engineer and 1+ years leading an IT PMO or major IT program management function.

  • IT infrastructure and cloud environments.

  • SaaS operations and platform projects.

  • Data platforms, analytics, and BI initiatives.

  • Cybersecurity and compliance programs.

  • Experience overseeing application support/ITSM functions (L1 & L2 support, incident/problem/change management).

  • Experience working in environments where business units own key systems, with demonstrated ability to influence, standardize, and centralize selectively over time.

  • Strong executive presence and proven ability to influence VP/C-level stakeholders on prioritization and tradeoffs.
