Job description

Position Summary:

The Strategy Director/Head of Strategy will be a pivotal leadership role, serving as the right hand to Group Strategy, Senior Director . This individual will lead strategic planning, manage major strategic projects. The role requires a blend of strategic foresight, strong execution capabilities, and exceptional stakeholder management in a dynamic and regulated industry.

Key Objectives:

  • Drive the strategic planning cycle, aligning corporate vision and business unit goals to optimize growth and profitability, culminating in a session with the Plc Board
  • Drive and manage large-scale strategic projects that cut across a number of divisions and require cross-functional decisions and trade offs, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives (For example “Group AI strategy”)
  • Lead market analysis and competitive intelligence efforts, shaping insights into actionable strategies and provide thought leadership on industry trends to position the company for future competitive advantage.
  • Build and refine the strategic pipeline, including organic growth, partnerships, and new venture opportunities.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to influence stakeholders and drive change, particularly on sensitive topics that may involve organizational friction
  • Collaborate closely with the Finance, Business Units, Product and Technology teams to ensure strategic alignment and successful execution.
  • Foster a culture of strategic thinking, capability building, and continuous improvement within the strategy team and broader organization.
  • Manage a team of 2-4 direct reports and provide leadership to a broader team of ex-bankers and ex-consultants

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee annual strategic planning workshops, working collaboratively with business unit leaders to identify and develop growth priorities and execution plans.
  • Lead rigorous market analysis and competitive assessments to drive informed decision-making at executive and board levels.
  • Partner closely with the Corporate Development team to assess strategic fit, perform due diligence, and execute acquisitions or strategic partnerships.
  • Develop clear, actionable strategic frameworks and communicate them effectively to stakeholders at all organizational levels.
  • Mentor and coach strategy and business leaders, building a robust talent pipeline equipped with best-in-class strategic planning capabilities.
  • Simplify complexity, distil critical insights, and clearly articulate strategic pathways to senior management and board members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  •  Junior partner-level profile from an MBB (McKinsey, BCG, Bain) equivalent firm or a high-performing individual from a Tier 2 consulting firm
  • A minimum of 4-5 years (preferably 5-6 years) in consulting, demonstrating a well-developed toolkit and end-to-end project management experience. Exceptions may be considered for exceptional profiles with relevant gaming experience and strong capabilities
  • Demonstrated success in leading strategic initiatives, portfolio assessments, integrated business cycle, M&A diligence, and integration within large, complex global enterprises.
  • Deep experience and proven track record in evaluating markets, assessing strategic fit, cultivating opportunities, and successfully driving growth.
  • Domain expertise relevant to the company's primary sector. Preference for B2C consumer-focused work, though B2B experience is also acceptable. Experience in regulated sectors is a plus but not a top priority.
  • Technological Acumen. While not requiring specialist expertise, candidates must have a sufficient understanding of technology to engage in intelligent conversations with stakeholders on technology. An openness to learning and a proactive approach to technology discussions are crucial.
  • Managerial Experience: Proven experience in managing teams, ideally including engagement managers, is required to effectively lead and mentor junior team members.
  • MBA or advanced degree from a top-tier institution strongly preferred.
