Job description
The Career Services Advisor plays a pivotal role in connecting education to employment, the ultimate measure of a student’s success and the college’s mission. This position ensures that students are professionally equipped with the confidence, tools, and strategies needed to launch careers in their chosen field.
This role guides students through every stage of job readiness, from resume development to interview preparation, while also cultivating strong partnerships with local healthcare providers and employers. Fostering these relationships helps secure externship-to-hire opportunities, direct hire pathways, and long-term workforce partnerships that benefit both students and the broader community.
The effectiveness of this role is measured by student outcomes—achieving and exceeding graduate employment benchmarks required by accreditation standards. This key role not only changes individual lives by helping graduates achieve meaningful employment but also safeguards the institution’s compliance, reputation, and growth in competitive healthcare education markets.
- Provide personalized career coaching to students and recent graduates including resume and cover letter development, tailored job search strategies, interview preparation, and networking techniques which align with modern career readiness standards.
- Facilitate individual and group sessions through workshops, drop-ins, classroom presentations, and networking events to develop professional competencies ensuring students are prepared for their job search upon program completion.
- Build and nurture employer relationships including externships and direct-hire opportunities with local healthcare organizations, to create pathways to employment.
- Develop, coordinate, and host employer engagement events such as job fairs, on-campus presentations, and mock interviews to connect students with workforce opportunities.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to integrate externship-to-hire pathways and maximize clinical-to-hire placement conversions.
- Maintain meticulous records using company systems to monitor student engagement, employer outreach, and program outcomes that will support data-driven improvements.
- Promote the college brand and career services through outreach initiatives in the community.
- Monitor assigned caseloads, placement activity, and performance indicators. Take timely action to address gaps, barriers, and follow-up needs.
- Represent the college professionally in the community and support campus events, graduation or pinning ceremonies, and other student-facing activities, as needed.
Success Metrics & Performance Expectations:
The Career Services Advisor is evaluated on measurable results, not activity alone. Performance expectations may vary by campus, program mix, and leadership priorities, but generally include the following:
- Graduate Employment Outcomes: Support assigned programs in meeting or exceeding applicable graduate employment benchmarks established by accreditors and the institution.
- Career Readiness Completion: Ensure required student and graduate-facing activities are completed accurately, on time, and in alignment with department expectations.
- Employer Partnership Development: Consistently generate, maintain, and expand employer relationships that create qualified hiring opportunities and strengthen workforce partnerships.
- Externship and Clinical Conversion Support: Partner with externship, clinical, and campus teams to improve conversion of training experiences into employment where applicable.
- Student and Graduate Follow-Up: Maintain disciplined outreach and case management to drive graduate engagement, interview activity, placement results, and timely employment verification.
- Data Integrity and Reporting: Maintain complete, accurate, and audit-ready records that support accreditation, compliance, internal reporting, and operational decision-making.
- Professional Representation and Collaboration: Demonstrate responsiveness, accountability, sound judgment, and effective partnership with students, employers, and internal stakeholders.

- Minimum 2 years of experience in a role requiring direct coaching, advising, placement, business development, recruitment, or relationship management. Experience in postsecondary education, healthcare, or a performance-based service environment is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build rapport, influence outcomes, and communicate effectively with students, graduates, employers, faculty, and campus leadership.
- Strong organizational skills, follow-through, and ability to manage competing priorities, deadlines, and a high-volume caseload in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office required. Experience with CRM, student information, reporting, or case management systems such as CampusVue, CampusNexus, or PowerBI is preferred.
