About the role
The Environmental Source Test Engineer is a member of Reworld’s Environmental Testing Group and plays a critical role in ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance and environmental performance across Reworld’s Thermomechanical Treatment Facilities (TTFs). This position is primarily responsible for planning, overseeing, and executing comprehensive air emissions monitoring and source testing programs. In addition, the role provides as‑needed support for the integrity, performance, and compliance of Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) data at select Reworld facilities. This position supports Reworld’s commitment to operating responsibly, meeting or exceeding regulatory expectations, and maintaining strong relationships with regulatory agencies and facility personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee comprehensive air emissions monitoring and source testing programs at Reworld Thermomechanical Treatment Facilities (TTFs) to ensure ongoing compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute all phases of air emissions source testing, including pre‑compliance site reviews, test planning, onsite execution, post‑test evaluation, and follow‑up activities.
- Serve as the primary technical liaison between facility operations, environmental teams, testing contractors, Regional and Corporate staff, and regulatory agencies during source testing activities.
- Review and approve source test plans and final reports to confirm technical accuracy, completeness, and adherence to applicable USEPA and state‑approved testing methodologies.
- Ensure all testing documentation, records, and submittals are complete, accurate, timely, and maintained in accordance with regulatory and Reworld internal standards.
- Analyze and interpret source testing and emissions data to assess compliance status, identify trends, and support continuous improvement opportunities in operational and environmental performance.
- Support and refine facility testing schedules and long‑term monitoring strategies in alignment with permit requirements and operational needs.
- Assist with the development and administration of bid requests, task orders, and purchase orders for environmental testing services in coordination with facilities, contractors, and Regional/Corporate teams.
- Monitor changes in federal and state source testing regulations and methodologies, evaluate their impacts on existing testing programs, and support updates to test plans and compliance strategies.
- Provide technical support for Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS), including data management, system functionality, and performance evaluations, as needed.
- Support the completion of Relative Accuracy Test Audits (RATAs), opacity audits, and Cylinder Gas Audits (CGAs) across Reworld facilities based on operational needs and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in special engineering and environmental test programs, collaborating with internal stakeholders, consultants, and regulatory agencies as required.
- Promote strong environmental stewardship, safety leadership, and cross‑functional collaboration while reinforcing Reworld’s commitment to responsible and compliant operations.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Environmental) or a related scientific discipline (Environmental Science, Chemistry, Biology).
- A combination of education and three years of directly relevant environmental source testing experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Up to five years of progressively responsible experience in environmental source testing, air emissions compliance, or a related role.
- Working knowledge of USEPA and state air testing methods, test programs, and reporting requirements.
- Experience managing source testing programs, developing test plans, and overseeing third‑party testing contractors.
- Familiarity with air pollution control systems, combustion processes, and facility operations.
- Experience interacting with regulatory agencies and communicating technical information to diverse audiences.
- Knowledge of environmental and operational data management systems.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong ability to work independently while effectively collaborating in cross‑functional teams.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and time‑management skills in a dynamic, multi‑site environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including technical documentation and presentations.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, and SharePoint.
- Ability to train and mentor others in environmental testing and compliance practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement.
Other Requirements
- This is a high‑visibility role requiring approximately 50% travel, including overnight travel, primarily throughout the eastern half of North America.
