Job Description: ABS Welder / Fitter

Immediate Openings (2 Positions)

Location: Shipyard – Outdoor Work, New York

Schedule

• Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM
• Overtime available
• Some weekend work required

Pay Rate: $30-35/hour

Job Summary

We are seeking ABS‑certified Welder/Fitters for immediate openings. Candidates must be capable of both fitting and welding, working safely and efficiently in an outdoor marine environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform welding and fitting on marine steel structures
• Read and interpret blueprints, weld symbols, and ship repair drawings
• Fit, tack, and weld components accurately and efficiently
• Execute welds that meet ABS requirements, including X‑ray testing
• Perform structural repairs including new steel to old steel repairs
• Conduct barge repair and marine fabrication work
• Use Stick and wire‑feed welding processes
• Weld in positions including 3G, 4G, and 6G
• Assist with general shipyard duties including cleanup, snow shoveling, and housekeeping as needed
• Follow all safety procedures and use provided PPE at all times
• Maintain a strong sense of ownership and teamwork on site

Welding Details

• Certifications: ABS welding certifications required
• Weld Testing: X‑ray (radiographic) testing
• Processes: Stick and wire feed
• Positions: 3G, 4G, 6G
• Materials:
• Primarily steel
• Occasional aluminum

Experience & Skills

• ABS‑certified welder required
• Shipyard or marine welding experience strongly preferred
• Must be able to both weld and fit independently
• Strong work ethic, reliability, and flexibility
• Ability to work outdoors year‑round in New York weather conditions

Equipment & PPE

• All welding tools and weld rigs provided on site
• Company‑provided PPE includes:
• Half‑face respirator (3M)
• Oxygen meters
• Safety equipment and tools
• Personal welding helmet preferred

Additional Requirements

• Reliable transportation preferred (street parking available adjacent to shipyard)
• Ability to pass pre‑employment screening
