Job description
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and
maintaining the company's fleet of heavy-duty diesel trucks and commercial trailers. This
role involves performing preventative maintenance and complex mechanical and electrical
system repairs to ensure all equipment operates safely and efficiently in compliance with
U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) regulations.
Perform preventative maintenance inspections (PMIs) and routine maintenance,
including oil changes, checking fluid levels, and DOT inspections.
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and electronic issues using computer diagnostic
equipment.
Repair and/or replace malfunctioning components or parts, including engines,
transmissions, brake systems (air brakes), steering mechanisms, and suspension
systems.
Conduct safety checks and perform all necessary repairs to ensure vehicles are
roadworthy and meet state and federal DOT inspection standards.
Communicate effectively with supervisors, team members, and sometimes drivers
to discuss repair plans and provide updates on vehicle status.
Complete all work orders and related paperwork accurately, maintaining detailed
records of all maintenance and repairs performed on each vehicle.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment, adhering to all company and industry
safety standards and environmental policies.
Strong mechanical aptitude, problem-solving skills, and the ability
to interpret technical manuals and diagrams. Proficiency in using computer
diagnostic software and all standard tools of the trade is essential.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally
more with assistance, and to stand, walk, bend, crouch, and kneel for extended
periods in a repair shop environment.
