Job description

We are searching for a photonic integrated circuit engineer to join its PIC development team. The primary role for this candidate is the design, modeling, and simulation of integrated photonic devices and circuits in a variety of PIC material platforms. A successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the team in areas of physical design, layout, characterization and data analysis.

Qualifications

  • Experience with photonic integrated circuit design, fabrication, and characterization
  • Understanding of photonic device physics including waveguides, lasers, modulators, and photodetectors
  • Understanding of basic electronics design for control circuitry a plus
  • Lab experience characterizing die-level and packaged PICs
  • Experience with photonic design software (preferably Ansys Lumerical)
  • Experience with physical design and layout software to generate GDS files (preferably KLayout)
  • Experience with DRC processes
  • Experience with MPW submissions
  • Experience with Python and MATLAB
  • Ability to think critically
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Willingness to work in a challenging and fast-paced environment
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Master’s or PhD in electrical engineering, physics or similar
  • U.S. citizen or Green Card Holder

Responsibilities

  • Design and simulate photonic integrated circuits to support system-level applications
  • Generate GDS files based on PIC designs and fabricate through MPW services
  • Collect and analyze data on PIC performance to compare to design simulations
  • Assist with PIC packaging design and implementation
  • Assist with development of electronic control systems for PICs
  • Help improve existing capabilities and develop new capabilities for PIC characterization
  • Communicate results in regular meetings, reports, and presentations
