GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
Accountability for ensuring efficient patient flow within the ward or unit by delegating tasks, supervising staff, and collaborating with healthcare providers to provide high-quality care and ensure smooth operation
JOB DESCRIPTION :
ORGANIZATION AND MANAGEMENT
Enforce high standards of care that are delivered safely, effectively, efficiently, and compassionately, while also organizing, directing, and coordinating with other facilities' services.
Establish clear directions for the nursing team to ensure evidence-based practice.
Collaborate with the nursing team, consultants, doctors, and other personnel to oversee patient care delivery for optimal client satisfaction.
Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing facilities and services.
Review and analyze the nursing statistics, performances, activities, improvements, and achievements.
Lead continuous quality improvement in patient care using audits and monitoring compliance with service and professional standards.
Plan and set regular staff meetings to disseminate and discuss issues in nursing services.
Participate actively in Head of Service (HOS) meetings and represent in hospital clinical committees.
Evaluate patient charges for completeness and charge accordingly
HUMAN RESOURCE AND DEVELOPMENT
Prepare the recruitment and retention plan for nursing staff in the unit.
Plan and implement a structured orientation program for newly recruited nursing staff.
Drive a development program to equip staff with the necessary knowledge and skills to maintain competency and meet organizational needs.
Monitor and Conduct reviews of staff appraisals.
Establish a mechanism to privilege specific procedures for nurses in their respective services.
Maintain comprehensive personal records for all staff.
Identify and provide supervision and guidance to the staff as needed.
Engage in research initiatives and advocate for quality improvement through evidence-based practice.
POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Review policies and procedures periodically and triennially to ensure they align with current nursing standards, regulations, statutory authority requirements, and service purposes.
Evaluate compliance with all policies and procedures of various quality and safety systems, including MS ISO 9001:2008, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001, Patient Safety Goals, National Nursing Audits, and other accredited standards like Malaysian Hospital Accreditation Standards and HACCP Netherlands.
Evaluate the prevention and control of infection, including the implementation of surveillance activity in the unit and evidence of involvement.
Control and maintain regular management of drugs aligned with hospital policies and procedures
Maintain confidentiality of patient’s personal and medical history
FACILITIES AND EQUIPMENT
Maintain records of equipment and inventory, including calibration for medical supplies and drug storage.
Monitor that the emergency trolley is checked as per the stipulated policy and conduct audits at regular intervals for compliance.
Plan the service budget, including the purchase of new items.
Provide on-the-job training and guidance to new staff, including the cleaning of medical equipment.
SAFETY AND QUALITY IMPROVEMENT ACTIVITIES
Monitor activities that contribute towards the continuous improvement of nursing services, such as Quality Assurance, Infection Prevention & Control, and Fire and Safety Programs.
Monitor and propose the quality of care/service in the designated unit and initiate action and implementation of corrective measures as needed.
Manage investigations and root cause analyses for any incidents in the services, take appropriate action, and ensure completion of incident reports within the stipulated time frame.
Participate and contribute to the Baby Friendly Hospital Initiative certification, with a focus on promoting exclusive breastfeeding. MSQH and JCI
Lead staff to adhere to Standard People Practice (SPP) and implement Malaysian Patient Safety Goals 2.0.
JOB REQUIREMENT :
Registered with the Nursing Board of Malaysia with a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse
Post Basic qualification in a related field
Bachelor of Nursing or to be obtained within 2 years of promotion
Registered Nurse with at least 8 years of clinical experience and diversity in clinical experience.
Skills & Competencies:
Leadership Program
Possess certifications in BLS, ACLS, MTLS, PALS and NRP (according to the specialties)
Special skills are required.
Proficient in writing and conversing in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
