Job Description for Personal Banking Advisor
Deliver high-quality, accurate, and timely customer service in a retail banking environment by managing daily financial transactions and account openings. The Personal Banking Advisor educates prospective clients about bank products and services while providing personalized guidance to current customers to strengthen relationships. This role helps achieve banking center objectives by meeting or exceeding sales and referral goals, participating in outbound sales initiatives, and supporting management as needed.
Qualifications for Personal Banking Advisor
- A high school diploma or equivalent GED qualification is required.
- One year of Teller experience is preferred.
- Successful clearance of a credit background check is required to complete the verification process.

Sales and Service
- Support tellers and clients to ensure efficient service and minimize wait times.
- Handle teller responsibilities, including deposits, withdrawals, currency transactions, and check cashing.
- Open and maintain various deposit accounts, including checking, savings, IRAs, CDs, and money market accounts.
- Use consultative discussions to identify client needs and recommend suitable banking solutions.
- Drive business growth by recommending additional products and connecting clients with bank partners for potential collaboration.
- Participate in deposit and loan campaigns by making regular outbound calls to clients and prospects.
- Assist customers with personal and retail consumer loan applications and ensure completed applications are referred to the appropriate team member.
Client Experience
- Research and resolve client issues while addressing inquiries about account status.
- Ensure client interactions are consistently positive, professional, and reliable.
- Provide timely and effective responses to client questions and concerns.
- Enhance product and service knowledge by participating in sales meetings, training sessions, and online learning modules.
Compliance and Risk Management
- Follow all applicable bank regulations, policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Comply with risk management standards and adhere to the ethical guidelines outlined in the First Horizon Code of Ethics.
- Ensure adherence to the S.A.F.E. Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 and related regulatory requirements.
Operational Efficiency
- Guide banking center staff in daily operational tasks, emphasizing audit procedures.
- Support the on-the-job development of new associates in banking center operations.
- Stay updated on operational changes and procedural updates to ensure compliance.
- Complete other job-related responsibilities as assigned.
Computer and Office Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Competence in using office and banking equipment, including a 10-key calculator and coin counter.
DeGarmo Behavioral Assessment Requirement
- Completion of the DeGarmo Retail Behavioral Assessment is required for all candidates.
- The assessment typically takes 12–15 minutes to complete.
- Assessment results must be submitted before Talent Acquisition reviews the application.
