Job Description:

Shell Energy is seeking a quantitative meteorologist with a strong understanding of regional and global weather models, as well as experience in short-term weather forecasting and analytics. This position requires effective communication with both the trading and analytical teams. The role focuses on weather forecasting, analytics, and modelling across short-term (ID/DA) and long-term (15‑day to seasonal) weather windows.

What we need from you:

  • Degree in Meteorology/Atmospheric Science or a related discipline.
  • Proven 5+ years of experience in short‑term power forecasting (wind/solar). Long-term forecasting experience would also be desirable
  • Proficiency with NWP interpretation, nowcasting, observation networks; ability to reconcile conflicts across sources.
  • Experience with AI/ML techniques used in weather forecasting or data processing.
  • Hands‑on analytical proficiency (Python, NumPy, Pandas, xarray, Matplotlib, etc.).
  • Clear, confident communication under time pressure; ability to translate meteorological uncertainty into market‑relevant insights.
  • Practical understanding of ID/DA power markets, imbalance pricing, and the role of forecast error in balancing costs.
  • Exposure to API‑based forecast delivery, data pipelines, and cloud workflows; comfort collaborating with data engineers/ML teams.
