Job description

WHAT IS KALSHI?

Kalshi has defined a new category: prediction markets. Kalshi allows people to trade on the outcome of any events and turn any question about the future into a financial asset. Kalshi fought for years and legalized prediction markets in the US for the first time in history, is currently the fastest growing financial market in America, and has thousands of markets across politics, economics, financials, weather, tech, AI, culture and more.

We believe prediction markets have the potential to be the largest financial market because they turn anything into a financial position.

  • Our vision: well… build the largest financial market on the planet.
  • Our mission: bring more truth to the world through the power of markets.

Our culture is simple: we hire really talented people, work really hard, and enjoy the climb. We are looking for ambitious and exceptional people to join our (relatively small) team to help us build the next generation of financial markets.

ROLE ROADMAP

As Technology & IP Counsel you will serve as a key legal partner to the business, protecting and advancing Kalshi's intellectual property portfolio while driving the commercial relationships that power revenue and long-term growth. This is a role for a lawyer who thrives on variety — you'll own IP strategy and counseling while also rolling up your sleeves on technology transactions, licensing deals, and strategic commercial agreements. Over time, you'll become a versatile, trusted counselor across Product, Engineering, Sales, and Business Development, with the depth to go deep on IP and the range to flex into high-impact commercial work as the company scales.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Advise on IP strategy, portfolio management, and protection of Kalshi's patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets across its technology and brand assets
  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Design to identify, protect, and commercialize IP arising from new features, systems, and innovations
  • Draft, review, and negotiate technology and IP transactions, including licensing agreements, IP assignments, co-development agreements, and NDAs — and flex into broader commercial contracts, strategic partnerships, and enterprise agreements as needed
  • Advise on IP considerations in commercial transactions, partnerships, and M&A, including representations, warranties, and indemnification provisions
  • Support Sales and Business Development on commercial deals, helping structure agreements that protect Kalshi's IP while enabling revenue-generating partnerships
  • Develop and maintain scalable IP policies, contract templates, playbooks, and internal education programs that support both IP protection and a growing commercial organization
  • Monitor the competitive IP landscape and advise the business on emerging risks and opportunities
  • Stay current on relevant developments in IP law, technology transactions, and regulatory matters impacting the business

WHAT YOU BRING

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active bar membership in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
  • 2–6 years of legal experience, with meaningful time spent on technology transactions, IP counseling, or commercial contracting — law firm experience a strong plus
  • Technical background or demonstrated ability to engage deeply with complex technology (background in computer science, engineering, or financial systems a plus)
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills, with experience handling IP and commercial agreements independently
  • Proven ability to deliver clear, practical legal guidance in a fast-paced, business-driven environment
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with comfort working cross-functionally with engineers, product managers, and senior stakeholders
  • Sound judgment and a solutions-oriented mindset, with the range to balance IP protection, commercial goals, and legal risk across a variety of matters

NYC PAY TRANSPARENCY

Salary Range: $160,000 to $320,000 annually, plus equity and benefits.

This range reflects current market data for this role. Kalshi has minimal hierarchy and broad variance in experience levels within each title; if your compensation expectations exceed this range, we encourage you to reach out - we’re always happy to discuss.

OUR CULTURE

Meritocracy is at our core, and we value people who take ownership and figure (usually hard) things out. We dream big. We love our craft deeply and are proud of what we put out in the world. We are committed to our vision of building something big… but also useful: a product that brings more truth through the power of markets.

Kalshians are Kalshi’s most important asset: we pick Kalshians carefully, so we trust them fully on day 1.

COMMITMENT TO EQUAL OPPORTUNITY

Kalshi is committed to creating a culture of inclusion and belonging, and we are proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We believe it is our collective responsibility to uphold these values and encourage candidates from all backgrounds to join us in our mission. All qualified applicants will be treated with respect and receive equal consideration for employment without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, uniform service, veteran status, age, or any other protected characteristic per federal, state, or local law. If you are passionate about what you do and want to use your talents to support our mission and values, we’d love to hear from you.
