In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

The Division of Child and Family Well-Being (CFWB) works to ensure families and children have the critical supports they need to thrive and exercise self-determination. CFWB leverages concrete resources, stakeholder relationships, and community and family strengths to drive toward greater equity and social justice, reduce disparities and disproportionality - including in the child welfare system -, and create conditions that foster well-being for families and children across New York City. Our work includes the provision of child care assistance; support for caregivers and child-serving professionals to prevent child injury; and investment in community-based approaches.

The Provider Inquiry Unit (PIU) unit researches and investigates provider payment/enrollment issues that could not be resolved by CFWB Call Center agents at the time of their call.

The Legally Exempt Provider Unit (LEP) provides child care information, updates, and assistance to support Legally Exempt (LE) providers and programs with enrollment. The LEP Unit assists the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation (WHEDCo) who has the responsibility of enrolling and monitoring LE providers and programs in New York City.

Reporting directly to the Assistant Commissioner of Child Care Operations, the Executive Director for Child Care Support Services provides operational leadership and oversight for multiple units within the ACS Division of Child and Family Well-Being responsible for administering child care assistance and support services for families eligible for free or subsidized child care, and supporting providers participating in the child care subsidy system.
