Job description
The Staff Accountant supports the accounting and financial reporting function by preparing journal entries, performing account reconciliations, and assisting with the month-end close process. This role is responsible for assigned general ledger areas, including fixed assets, prepaids, cash reconciliations, and accruals, to ensure accurate financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and company policies.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare routine and adjusting journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation
- Assist with monthly, quarterly and year end close
- Ensure proper capitalization of fixed assets and track depreciation
- Assist with internal and external audits
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate variances
- Ensure adherence to GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Prepare daily bank reconciliations and cash activity; identify and escalate reconciling items.
- Maintain the fixed asset subledger, record asset activity, calculate depreciation, and prepare reconciliations
- Record prepaid expenses, maintain amortization schedules, and prepare monthly prepaid reconciliations
- Prepare AP check reconciliations and track outstanding, voided, and reissued checks
- Prepare routine accrual journal entries and supporting schedules as part of the month-end close

- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required
- 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience
- Experience participating in full-cycle month-end close
- Experience with fixed assets, prepaids, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations
- Experience working with ERP systems
- Strong understanding of GAAP principles
- Satisfactory completion of additional background screening.

- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, reconciliation analysis)
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with internal stakeholders
- Ability to follow established procedures and internal controls
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- The work environment is a typical office environment, with quiet to moderate noise level, and traditional lighting.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and operating a computer.
- Must be able to communicate effectively using phones or computer software.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Must be able to access and navigate each department at the assigned facilities.
- Must be able to travel between MCG locations as needed, some travel could require overnight stays.
