  • Permanent Full-Time 40 hours week
  • Role based in Welshpool, WA

Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the Metallurgy Technician is responsible for undertaking day‑to‑day, client focused metallurgical test work activities at Metallurgy Pty Ltd based in Welshpool.

Responsible for conducting the bulk of day to day activities at Metallurgy laboratories. In this role the encumbent undertakes a range of procedures which are clearly described by the metallurgists via safe work instructions or Job Requests (JR). With a solid background in laboratory settings and practices, the technician will have good organisational and time management skills, the ability to work independently and demonstrate an awareness of safe work conditions. 

Responsibilities include, however, are not limited to:

Client Focus

  • Undertake sample management tasks (labelling, receipting, inventory preparation, storage).
  • Undertake all tasks designated to Laboratory Technician Level 1.
  • Conduct cyclosizing & laser sizing analyses.
  • Conduct routine gold recovery test work inclusive of cyanide leach tests.
  • Conduct selected gravity concentration processes (Knelson, Falcon concentrators & Wilfley Table).

Teamwork/Leadership

  • Ensure project deliverables are achieved and quality outputs are reached.
  • Positively influence others to achieve results that are in the best interests of the Company.
  • Demonstrate on a daily basis a work ethic that upholds Company values.
  • Assume personal accountability for own tasks and training where required.
  • Actively participate in toolbox and safety meetings.
  • At all times, comply with SGS Code of Integrity and Professional Conduct. 

The successful candidate will have:

  • 1 – 2 years experience in the minerals processing / production / laboratory testing industries.
  • Ability to prioritise and complete tasks in a timely manner
  • Ability to work independently and use initiative.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to deliver support to technicians and senior technicians.
  • An understanding of Occupational Health and Safety.
  • Current “C” class Western Australian drivers licence.
  • Acceptable verbal communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills.  

Desired Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor of Metallurgical Engineering
  • Knowledge and experience with various commodities and unit operations.
  • Experience with some metallurgical laboratory operations and /or testing operations.
  • Forklift certification.
  • First aid training.
