The Mechanical engineering group is seeking an established Opto-Mechanical Designer for an On-Site position in our Westford, MA location. We are looking for self-starting candidates to perform mechanical design and documentation of electro-mechanical & electro-optical assemblies, and support our manufacturing facility in Westford, MA.
What you will do:
- The candidate is expected to work autonomously with limited oversight, adhering to established procedures and instructions while collaborating closely with lead engineers to ensure the overall design and production goals are achieved. Effectively communicate across disciplines by working with a diverse team of engineers to model and document the design's technical data package (TDP), including its capabilities and compliance with requirements.
- Work within a multi-disciplined team of engineers to propose, design, and develop innovative solutions ranging from structural design, optic housing design, electronics equipment packaging, circuit card assemblies, and interconnects for our sensor systems.
- Utilize expertise in managing large assemblies using PTC Creo Parametric software, enhance drafting and modeling methodologies, support model and product development from conceptual layouts through to final detailed releases. Proficiency in Creo and a strong command of GD&T principles are critical for success in this role.
- Occasional travel to suppliers may be required to address production issues, resolve technical performance challenges, or attend critical program engineering reviews.
Qualifications You Must Have:
- 10+ years of prior relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and 7+ years experience.
- 7+ years of experience in mechanical design drafting and development preferably of defense-related components or systems or aerospace.
- Experience with PTC Creo Parametric Software and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles and their application for design documentation and fabrication.
- Proficient with PTC Creo Parametric (preferred) or other mechanical CAD design tools.
- Experience using PTC Windchill PLM system.
- U.S. Citizen, U.S. Person, or Immigration Status Requirements. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is desirable. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible to support most of our products.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Experience using CREO Parametric in the design of electromechanical assemblies and the interrelationship of the components therein related to optical system design. Including kinematic mounting, athermalization, optic potting, etc.
- Knowledge of aerostructure, fastener design, materials and fabrication methods.
- Experience creating high tolerance mechanical part and assembly drawings.
- Experience in the support of design and integration of mechanical parts and assemblies.
- Strong interpersonal, communication skills and ability to work independently and as a team member.
- Knowledge of Mechanical CAD design, electronic design with experience in military / aerospace industry standards.

AA/AS degree (or other 2-year post high school training) with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience. Certification may be required for technical support roles.

The salary range for this role is 66,800 USD - 127,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
