Responsibilities The Wound Nurse is a multifaceted, evidence-based, registered nurse specialty which incorporates a unique body of knowledge to provide excellence in prevention, health maintenance, therapeutic intervention, and rehabilitative nursing care to select patients. This complex, interdependent nursing specialty encompasses all patient populations across the continuum of care. The wound nurse directs efforts at guiding optimal patient care that improves the quality of life for individual with wound, ostomy, and continence concerns, achieving positive clinical outcomes though its unique scope of practice. This nursing specialty demonstrated experience in specific areas of clinical practice further developed though specialty certification. The wound nurse additionally utilizes the nursing process in the following major areas: practice, education, consultation, research, and admission.
