What you'll do We are seeking an experienced Systems Engineer to provide technical leadership for payload systems while delivering systems engineering oversight of international suppliers through design, build, integration, and delivery. This role serves as a key technical interface between payload engineering, suppliers, and internal spacecraft teams, ensuring system‑level alignment, requirements compliance, and successful integration of externally developed hardware. The day-to-day Serve as systems engineering support for payload development, including requirements, interfaces, and performance assessments Support supplier procurements by defining technical requirements, statements of work, and acceptance criteria Provide technical and systems oversight of international suppliers throughout design, manufacturing, integration, and test Review and assess supplier designs, analyses, and documentation for compliance with system and payload requirements Lead technical interchange meetings and participate in supplier and internal design reviews Ensure alignment between supplier deliverables, payload architectures, and spacecraft system constraints Own and manage payload‑related interfaces across internal teams and suppliers Support payload and system‑level verification, validation, and acceptance planning Identify supplier‑driven technical risks and lead mitigation and resolution efforts Communicate supplier technical status, risks, and recommendations to program and engineering leadership Mentor other engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of supplier‑facing systems processes What you'll need Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience 10+ years of systems engineering experience, including externally sourced or supplier‑developed hardware Strong experience supporting payload systems or complex spacecraft subsystems Demonstrated ability to oversee supplier technical execution across international partnerships Deep understanding of requirements‑driven development, interface control, and verification closure Ability to operate independently as a technical authority across organizations and cultures Strong written and verbal communication skills for complex technical discussions What will help you on the job Experience working with international suppliers or distributed engineering teams Familiarity with spacecraft payload integration and system‑level verification Background in aerospace, space systems, or other high‑reliability environments Comfort leading technical resolution across organizational boundaries A disciplined systems mindset with strong attention to compliance and traceability EEO Statement Viasat is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, seeking to create a welcoming and diverse environment.
