Department Overview

The Presales group oversees Presales activities including commercial and bid management, system integration estimation, quotations, price lists and solutions or other proposal management as needed.The Pre-Sales Engineering team works hand-in-hand with the Sales Organization and our customers. Our engineers assess customer business requirements and provide innovative communications solutions that make a difference in the moments that matter. The Pre-Sales Engineering team has the technology, architecture and design responsibility for all systems sales support engagements nationwide.


Job Description

As Network Architect, you will undertake high level engineering tasks (such as Solution Design, System Architecture Design, High Level Designs and Detail Designs) to support sales opportunities, network development, operations and network transformation.  The Network Architect will have end-to-end ownership of the overall network from a technical perspective  including network architecture, innovation and security. In this role, you will be expected to issue and conduct end-to-end management of technical solutions, designs and network changes from pre-sales through to operations. You will work closely with engineering, sales, pre-sales, projects and operations in order to discover business requirements and customer needs to drive network innovation, expansion and transformation as well as execute on the scope of responsibilities.


 

You will be responsible for:

  • End-to-end system network architecture and solution design for new opportunities, network expansion or network enhancements

  • Network technology strategy development. Develop the strategy (Documents and roadmaps) that guide long term transformation

  • Assess and document customer requirements and influencing of RFx requirements during the opportunity development phase

  • Articulate the value proposition of new solutions/products/services/changes and ensure the account teams have the necessary understanding to professionally sell the solution

  • Support complicated Sales proposals and be the trusted advisor to the customer and internal stakeholders

  • Responsible for signing off on engineering designs, changes and implementations in the network

  • Single point of contact for the customer regarding engineering matters affecting the network. Motorola representative at appropriate forums. Actively manage technical relationships with the customer.

  • Solutions and System architecture design and dimensioning to provide customer required features and performance criteria

  • Support the account team in terms of internal and external technical presentations and business development.

  • Evaluate different Motorola technologies and solutions in order to determine the best fit for customer needs, operational requirements and budget. Work with Sales to develop overall sales strategies based on the customer’s requirements and resources

  • Participating in contract negotiations

  • Interface with Motorola Product Teams regarding solutions or new products. Use understanding of systems, requirements and customer needs to request new products, systems, and features in order to strengthen Motorola’s solutions offerings

  • Ensure an understanding of commercial conditions and appropriate responses to technical conditions and compliance

  • Work closely with Cyber Security team to ensure that best practice is followed in terms of security architecture for network design and services

  • Technical leadership in areas such as architectural, migrations, capacity and performance.

  • Support network upgrade strategy, explaining impacts, features, operational and architecture changes.

  • Understanding the network Service contractual requirements for the radio network and support compliance with the network services and performance obligations, especially in relation to KPIs

  • Act as the primary design authority for the ASTRO P25 Radio System and associated technologies deployed in the network, ensuring that all designs align with standards, regulatory requirements, and Motorola Solutions' product strategy.

  • Review and approve engineering designs, ensuring consistency, interoperability, and scalability across the system.

  • Ensure designs meet P25 compliance standards, cybersecurity requirements, and other applicable standards.

  • Create detailed technical documentation and provide guidance/training to engineering teams and other stakeholders.

  • Advise customer on the impact of changes the customer is looking at making on the.


Basic Requirements

Essential:

  • Tertiary qualifications in engineering, telecommunications, or equivalent field

  • 10 years in involvement with a wide range of radio and IP communications solutions including their architecture design, specification and implementation

  • Proven track record in system architecture and design oversight.

  • Extensive experience in LMR systems, with a strong emphasis on ASTRO P25 technology and public safety communication requirements.

  • Experience in influencing technical customer requirements throughout the sales process

  • Strong general knowledge of wireless communications fundamentals and voice/data/application architectures and solutions, particularly in the public safety market

Beneficial:

  • Eligibility for or Member of the Institution of Engineers Australia

  • Strong general knowledge of networking architecture, protocols and cybersecurity

  • Security clearance or the ability to obtain it

  • Deep understanding of RF communication principles, IP networking, and system interoperability.

  • Experience in Solution Management, PreSales Engineering, Technical Sales and/or customer relationship management

  • Knowledge of or experience with Command Centre Applications, mobile video, VMS, cloud architectures, RF coverage predictions, traffic/capacity modeling,and related toolsets
