Job description

We are a well-funded, early-stage team building Playcademy, a next-generation platform focused on gamified learning experiences. Our mission is to make learning feel as engaging as playing a game.

We are creating a platform for K–6 students to learn through interactive, game-based experiences.

We combine the creative freedom of an indie studio with the ambition of building a scalable EdTech product. We are looking for a versatile 2D Art Generalist / Visual Designer to help shape the visual direction of our games from concept through production.

The role

We are looking for a Game Artist Generalist / Visual Designer who can become a key visual owner across Playcademy’s experiences.

This role blends game art and UI/UX, including both creating original assets and refining AI-assisted visuals into production-ready results.

This role is ideal for someone who

  • Enjoys working across multiple creative domains
  • Can think beyond individual assets and shape complete game experiences
  • Wants to help define the visual language of a new category (education × gaming)

You will work closely with the founder and have direct influence over the look, feel, and user experience of the platform.

What you will do

  • Create original artwork for characters, environments, and in-game visuals
  • Refine, repaint, and unify AI-assisted visuals into cohesive final assets
  • Help design interactive learning experiences with strong visual feedback
  • Create mockups, prototypes, and visual explorations for new features
  • Support storytelling through visuals (e.g., onboarding, progress journeys)

What we are looking for

  • A genuine interest in the future of education
  • Experience in 2D game art and interactive UI/UX design
  • Ambition to stay at the cutting edge of AI-first visual art
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of visual direction. We won’t just give you designs to polish, you have to take full ownership of game art.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Godot, Unity, or Web development
  • Interest to go beyond being an art contractor and develop subject matter expertise in educational game design

AI-assisted workflows

We actively embrace AI-assisted creative workflows where they improve speed, iteration, or exploration.

This may include

  • Concept ideation and variations
  • Rapid prototyping
  • Asset refinement and paintovers

What matters most

  • Final quality
  • Consistency
  • Originality
  • Real product usability

What we offer

  • Paid remote collaboration
  • A funded, fast-moving product with ambitious long-term vision
  • Direct ownership of visual identity and user experience
  • A small, high-impact team with fast decision-making
  • The opportunity to help shape the future of game-based education
  • Potential for full-time hire after trial period

Compensation

  • Up to $50/hr for the right candidate

To apply

Please send

  • Your portfolio and relevant work to nils.lang@superbuilders.school
  • A brief note on your approach to AI-assisted workflows (if relevant)
