Job description
Under general direction, supervise the work of roofers and other assigned employees; supervise subordinates who repair, alter and maintain skylights, ventilators, gutters, valleys, flashing, ridges and roofs composed of tar, gravel, slate, rubberoid and shingles; prepare work schedules and make work assignments; prepare job orders and requisitions for tools, equipment and materials; and may operate a motor vehicle. All Supervisor Roofers perform related work.
Special Working Conditions: Supervisor Roofers may be required to work various shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. Some of the physical activities performed by Supervisor Roofers and environmental conditions experienced are: walk to and from various job sites; climb ladders and stairs; make measurements with a ruler and tape; communicate orally; work outdoors in inclement weather; work at heights up to 30 stories to inspect roofing work; and work in damp areas that are confined, such as water tanks atop roofs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Supervision: Oversees roofers and other staff, providing technical guidance, assigning tasks, and maintaining work records.
- Site Inspection & Safety: Inspects jobs in progress and completed work for quality assurance and compliance with code requirements, sometimes working at heights up to 30 stories.
- Administrative/Planning: Prepares job orders, estimates material needs, and ensures tools and equipment are properly managed.
- Safety Compliance: Ensures adherence to OSHA regulations, NYC safety protocols, and proper installation of roofing materials.
- Emergency Work: Assists in the abatement of emergency roofing issues.
Physical/Working Conditions
- Work involves climbing ladders/stairs, walking to work sites, working in confined areas (water tanks), and exposure to inclement weather.
- Requires conducting field surveys and working with various departments on repair needs.
Note: Due to the existence of a civil service list, candidates must have permanent civil service status in the title of Supervisor Roofer to be considered.
