JOB TITLE: Summer Sawyer 

DIVISION: Mountain Operations   

REPORTS TO: Glading Manager  

LOCATION: Solitude Mountain  

CLASSIFICATION: Seasonal/ Full-Time/ Hourly

 

POSITION:   

Solitude Mountain Resort is seeking a skilled and safety‑focused Summer Seasonal Sawyer to support summer mountain operations through vegetation management, trail maintenance, and storm response. This role plays a critical part in maintaining safe, accessible, and visually appealing terrain across the resort by performing chainsaw operations and related land‑management tasks in a mountain environment. 

 

SPECIFIC JOB REQUIREMENTS:   

  • Prior experience operating chainsaws in a professional or wilderness setting preferred  
  • Knowledge of safe cutting techniques, hazard recognition, and escape routes  
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in remote, outdoor environments  
  • Strong situational awareness and commitment to safety  
  • Physical ability to perform demanding manual labor, including: Lifting up to 75 lbs, hiking uneven terrain at elevation, and working in variable mountain weather conditions.
  • Valid driver’s license required 

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Perform professional chainsaw operations including felling, bucking, limbing, and brushing  
  • Clear downed trees and debris from trails, service roads, lift corridors, and operational areas  
  • Assist with summer trail maintenance, erosion control, and general mountain upkeep  
  • Support storm damage cleanup and emergency response when needed  
  • Conduct preoperation inspections and routine maintenance on chainsaws and related equipment  
  • Follow all resort safety protocols, industry best practices, and applicable USFS guidelines  
  • Work collaboratively with Mountain Operations, Lift Maintenance, and Trails teams  
  • Document completed work and communicate hazards or operational concerns to supervisors  
  • Other duties as assigned in support of summer mountain operations 

 

SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: 

 

  • Seasonal summer position (typically June–September, weather dependent)  
  • Fulltime hours with potential for early mornings, evenings, weekends, and occasional overtime  
  • Outdoor, highelevation mountain environment
