Job description

ROLE PURPOSE

The Lead Rotating Equipment Design Engineer shall act as the focal person for all rotating equipment engineering activities related to the Instrument Air & Plant Air System Upgrade, with primary focus on Air Compressors, ensuring:

  • Full compliance with ADNOC Offshore Engineering Standards
  • Protection of FEED & Design Basis integrity
  • Safe, reliable, and energy-efficient operation of compressor systems on live offshore platforms
  • Independent Owner’s Engineer (OE)-level engineering governance

ROTATING EQUIPMENT DISCIPLINE SCOPE (IA/PA PROJECT)

The scope includes, but is not limited to:

  • Instrument Air Compressors
  • Plant Air Compressors
  • Compressor Drivers (Electric Motors) – Interface
  • Lubrication Oil Systems
  • Aftercoolers & Intercoolers
  • Inlet Filters & Silencers
  • Control & Protection Systems (Interface with I&C)
  • Skid-mounted Compressor Packages

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Rotating Equipment Technical Authority

Act as Lead Rotating Equipment Authority for:

    • Air compressor selection
    • Driver sizing
    • Performance & efficiency evaluation
    • Reliability and maintainability

Enforce compliance with:

    • ADNOC CoPs
    • API 617 / API 672 / API 618 (as applicable)
    • ISO standards for compressors

Provide final technical approval on rotating equipment design packages

Compressor Package Engineering & Vendor Oversight

Review and approve:

    • Vendor datasheets & performance curves
    • Compressor sizing calculations
    • Power & torque requirements
    • Materials of construction

Validate:

    • Flow, pressure & turndown ranges
    • Inter-stage cooling & moisture control
    • Package layout & maintainability
  • Ensure compliance with:
    • ADNOC offshore environmental conditions
    • Noise & vibration limits

Brownfield Integration & Offshore Feasibility

Lead rotating engineering for:

    • Space availability
    • Deck load integration (with Structural team)
    • Maintenance access & lifting envelopes

Review:

    • Laser scan data
    • As-built platform drawings

Support:

    • SIMOPS planning
    • Brownfield installation feasibility

Mechanical Integrity, Reliability & Condition Monitoring

Ensure:

    • Proper bearing selection
    • Lube oil system reliability
    • Vibration monitoring philosophy
    • Redundancy & standby philosophy

Support:

    • Commissioning vibration baseline
    • Reliability & availability review with ADNOC Ops

Interfaces with Other Disciplines

Coordinate closely with:

    • Electrical (motor, VSD, power)
    • I&C (control logic, trips, alarms)
    • Piping (suction/discharge/nozzle loads)
    • Structural (skids, lifting)
    • OEM Vendors

Construction & Commissioning Support

Review:

    • Installation method statements
    • Alignment & grouting procedures
    • Pre-commissioning check sheets

Witness:

    • No-load and load test runs
    • Performance testing

Support final RFSU approval for compressor systems

ADNOC-SPECIFIC OFFSHORE SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES

Enforce:

    • ADNOC PTW requirements
    • SIMOPS safety
    • Dropped object prevention

Validate:

    • Noise control
    • Guarding
    • Emergency access routes

SIMPLE DOCUMENTATION & REPORTING

Maintain key rotating equipment discipline registers, including:

    • Compressor Equipment List
    • Vendor Datasheet & Drawing Register
    • TQ & Deviation Log

Review and approve:

    • Vendor datasheets
    • GA & layout drawings
    • Test certificates
    • Pre-commissioning & commissioning records

Ensure compliance with:

    • ADNOC Document Numbering System
    • Project Master Document Register (MDR)

Prepare and submit:

    • Weekly Rotating Engineering Progress Reports
    • Monthly Discipline Summary Reports

Verify and approve as-built rotating equipment documentation for:

    • Mechanical Completion (MC)
    • Ready for Commissioning (RFC)
    • Ready for Start-Up (RFSU)
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • API rotating equipment certification – Advantage
  • ADNOC Offshore project approval experience – Strong Advantage
  • Minimum Experience: 15+ Years (Oil & Gas EPC Projects)
  • Offshore Experience: Mandatory (Brownfield Platform Projects Preferred)
