Description of Work
The North Carolina Forest Service is designated as an emergency response Division and is a team of professionals who provide forest protection, resource management and environmental education to the residents and landowners of North Carolina through a variety of programs. The NC Forest Service provides services to the 100 counties in North Carolina.The Service Forester provides professional oversight and expertise in the forest management program to multiple counties in assigned District.
Position requires:
• Collecting and analyzing forest data to provide technical advice to landowners
• Writing management plans for non-industrial private forest landowners
• Interacts with consulting foresters, as well as other professional state and local government land managers for forestry related technical assistance.
• Conducting environmental compliance inspections for regulations related to forestry activities
• Responds in times of emergency such as wildland fires and natural disasters.
Work hours are typically 8-5 M-F. Extended times of readiness will involve evening, holiday, and/or weekend work. Must be available after working hours during fire danger periods and times of emergency response.
Overnight travel will be required.

Official NC Forest Service uniform and a State-owned vehicle will be provided to support everyday job responsibilities.

Recruitment Range: $45,431 - $79,504
Knowledge of the principles and practices of forest management
Knowledge of collecting and analyzing forestry data
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral formats.
Ability to be self-motivated, a team player, and able to remain claim under stress

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in forestry from a Society of American Foresters (SAF) accredited institution; or registered by the North Carolina Board of Registration for Foresters; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Necessary Special Requirement:
Those not registered at the time of hire must obtain registration as a Forester from the NC Board of Registration for Foresters within two years of employment.
