The Maine Department of Labor (DOL) seeks a Business Technology Manager responsible for data security and business continuity strategies, protecting DOL systems and processes as both technology and usage evolve. The individual in this position will operate to ensure that the Department's services to Maine citizens are minimally affected, if at all, and that data is secured in the event of a system failure, data incident, or man-made or natural disaster.
While security and continuity are the focus, guidance on general technology matters and areas such as AI are also important. The individual must understand the Department’s programs, goals, and strategies to appropriately advise management on technology options and the possible benefits and risks.
A well-rounded background includes experience across multiple IT disciplines, including software development, database administration, and cloud and hybrid infrastructure, enabling end-to-end system design, deployment, and optimization.
This position reports to the Deputy Commissioner and is part of the Department’s senior leadership team. While there are no direct reports, the individual will work closely with business managers and technology leads within both DOL and MaineIT. The position also serves as the primary liaison with the IRS and SSA regarding information security matters. Developing solid working relationships and trusted partnerships is critical.
Applicant must demonstrate skill, knowledge, and abilities in:
- Understanding of the importance of cybersecurity and best practices in risk avoidance, and a robust desire to increase knowledge in this area
- Strong communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders across the organization
- Demonstrated experience balancing service delivery and technology risk
- Outstanding research and analytical skills, with a demonstrated track record of understanding key performance measures relating to cybersecurity and risk avoidance
- Ability to apply critical thinking and logic to analyze and create solutions
- Knowledge of computer systems, networking, and systems integration
- Effective technical documentation and report-writing skills
- Professionalism and respect in the workplace, with a focus on building and nurturing partnerships across the department as well as working closely with the Office of Information Technology.
Minimum qualifications:
The successful candidate must have at least six years of experience spanning multiple areas such as IT risk management, business continuity and disaster recovery, information technology, database administration, cloud architecture, or similar fields
Preference will be given to those applicants:
Designation of CISSP, CISM, CISA, or CompTIA Security+ is preferred
