Job Description Summary

Join GE Vernova’s HVDC Centre of Excellence and become part of a highly motivated, international engineering team developing the next generation of HVDC converters and HVDC Grid technologies.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the forefront of power electronics, contributing to solutions that enable the global energy transition.

As a Senior Electronic Hardware Engineer, you will take a leading technical role in the design, verification and validation of electronic hardware for industrial control systems used in HVDC applications.

You will operate with a high level of autonomy, applying sound engineering judgment, while contributing to technical strategy, standards and best practices within your discipline.

Job Description

What You Will Do:

Electronic Hardware Design & Engineering:

  • Design and develop digital and analogue electronic circuits for industrial control systems
  • Perform schematic capture, PCB layout reviews and component selection
  • Ensure designs meet EMC, environmental, EHS, RoHS/REACH and regulatory requirements
  • Apply DFMEA, failure analysis and root cause analysis

Testing, Verification & Validation:

  • Lead bench testing, integration testing and type testing (EMC, environmental, HALT)
  • Support FATs and qualification testing with suppliers and test laboratories
  • Validate performance, reliability and manufacturability of designs

Technical Leadership & Authority:

  • Act as technical authority within your domain
  • Provide mentoring and technical guidance to less experienced engineers
  • Influence technical policy, standards and design practices
  • Interface with external manufacturers and integrators to drive optimal design solutions

Lifecycle & Industrialisation:

  • Support DFM / DFT, industrialisation and design-to-cost
  • Manage component lifecycle, obsolescence and lead-time risks
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation and reports

Skills & Experience: To be successful in this role, you should bring strong electronics engineering expertise, sound technical judgment and the ability to work effectively in a complex, multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Essential:

  • Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering or similar
  • Strong experience in digital and analogue electronic design
  • PCB design knowledge (layout rules, constraints, interactions with power electronics)
  • Experience in verification and validation testing
  • Strong failure analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work autonomously within complex engineering environments

Highly Desirable:

  • Experience in HVDC or power electronics systems
  • FPGA selection experience
  • Knowledge of industrial networks (Profibus, Ethernet, PON)
  • Exposure to firmware or software development
  • Experience with modelling tools (LTSpice, SIMetrix, Mathcad)
