Job Summary

This role is for a Utilities Operations and Maintenance Manager, responsible for overseeing the operation, maintenance, and optimization of critical utility systems—including chillers, water systems, cooling towers, compressors, HVAC, WFI, PW, and steam—across the facility. The position ensures uninterrupted utility service to production plants while maintaining compliance with GMP, FDA, and local safety regulations.

Key responsibilities include leading engineering projects, managing automation systems, coordinating with cross-functional departments, and implementing preventive and corrective maintenance strategies. The role also involves conducting audits, managing vendor activities, and ensuring adherence to quality management systems.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operation and maintenance of critical utility systems such as chillers, water systems, cooling towers, compressors, HVAC, WFI, PW, and steam systems to ensure uninterrupted service to production facilities.
  • Ensure adherence to safety protocols and work permit requirements by all team members, including hazard identification and approval processes prior to maintenance activities.
  • Conduct internal audits and inspections, identify compliance gaps, and implement corrective and preventive actions using tools like Why-Why analysis, Kaizens, and Poka-yoke.
  • Lead engineering projects from initiation to completion, including resource allocation, progress monitoring, and ensuring quality standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Verify and approve fabrication and insulation-related works, manage third-party investment documentation, and coordinate with SCM for timely inventory and material delivery.
  • Maintain automation systems and plant equipment, identify performance gaps, and propose improved architectures and solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Train and guide the engineering team on maintenance procedures, safety awareness, and operational excellence, while fostering a high-performance culture.
  • Design and monitor utility generation activities to ensure cost efficiency, continuous availability, and alignment with benchmark standards.

Educational Qualification

Graduation in Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or related field is mandatory.
Post Graduation in Energy Management, Renewable Energy, or Environmental Engineering is preferred.

Minimum Work Experience - 10+ years of experience.

Critical Exposures

  • 5+ years in roles across Utility / Water Systems / HVAC in pharmaceutical manufacturing is desired.
  • Experience in the operation, maintenance, and optimization of utility (HVAC, compressed air, steam) / water systems (Purified Water, WFI) is desired.
  • Experience in compliance with cGMP and regulatory standards for utility/water systems is desired.
  • Exposure to implementing BMS (Building Management Systems) and energy efficiency projects, optimizing system performance, and reducing costs is preferred.
  • Exposure in supporting the EHS team on safety, equipment, and infrastructure related to compliance (e.g., waste disposal systems, safety protocols) is preferred.
