Job description

The Opportunity: 

Mattel is seeking a Principal Enterprise Architect – Integrations & API Architecture to define and lead the enterprise-wide integration strategy powering our digital, data, and supply chain ecosystems.

This role is ideal for a forward-thinking architect and strong technical leader with deep expertise in event-driven and API-led architectures, capable of designing scalable, resilient, and real-time integration platforms across the enterprise.

What Your Impact Will Be: 

Enterprise Integration Strategy

  • Define and own the enterprise integration architecture and roadmap, spanning event-driven, API-led, and batch data processing patterns
  • Establish standards, governance, and best practices for integrations across all platforms
  • Drive adoption of modern integration paradigms including domain-driven and composable architectures

Event-Driven & Real-Time Architecture

  • Architect and scale event-driven systems leveraging platforms such as Kafka / Confluent
  • Design asynchronous, decoupled architectures to enable real-time data flow and responsiveness
  • Define event schemas, streaming patterns, and data contracts across domains

API & Integration Platform Leadership

  • Lead design of enterprise API architecture, including API gateways, lifecycle management, and developer enablement
  • Establish API-first and product-based integration models
  • Ensure secure, scalable, and well-governed API ecosystems across internal and external consumers

Data Integration & Processing

  • Architect batch and real-time data pipelines using ETL/ELT and modern data processing tools
  • Enable integration with data platforms, warehouses, and analytics ecosystems
  • Support data consistency, quality, and observability across distributed systems

Platform Engineering & Scalability

  • Design integration solutions using cloud-native, microservices, and containerized architectures
  • Evaluate and implement integration platforms (iPaaS), API management tools, and streaming technologies
  • Ensure high availability, performance, and resilience at enterprise scale

Leadership & Influence

  • Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership, driving integration strategy and investment decisions
  • Lead architecture governance, reviews, and cross-domain alignment
  • Mentor and guide a small team of architects and engineers
  • Collaborate across Digital, Data, and Supply Chain teams to deliver cohesive solutions

What We’re Looking For:

  • 10+ years of experience in enterprise architecture, integration architecture, or platform engineering
  • Proven experience designing and implementing API-led and event-driven architectures at scal
  • Kafka / Confluent or similar streaming platform
  • API gateways and management platforms (Apigee, Kong, MuleSoft, etc.
  • ETL/ELT tools and data processing framework
  • Microservices, REST/GraphQL APIs, and event-driven systems
  • Experience with cloud-native architectures (AWS, GCP, Azure, OCI)
  • Deep understanding of integration patterns (sync/async, pub-sub, streaming, batch)
  • Experience with data governance, security, and API lifecycle management
  • Ability to design for scalability, resilience, and enterprise-grade performance
  • Strong ability to influence stakeholders and communicate complex architecture clearly
  • Excellent presentation and storytelling skills
  • Experience mentoring and leading small, high-performing teams
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field
  • Relevant cloud or integration certifications are a plus
