About the business and role
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an ambitious and experienced Senior / Associate Geoenvironmental specialist (with an interest in geochemistry) to join SLR’s Soils, Geochemistry, Toxicology & Risk team, with location flexibility across Australia with a strong preference for Brisbane.

You will work very closely with multidisciplinary teams across the Asia‑Pacific region and ideally have a strong skill set across environmental science like mine closure, soils, erosion sediment control or similar. You will play a key role in project coordination and have a strong desire to get things done.
Job tasks & Responsibilities
This role provides an exceptional opportunity to work closely with industry leaders while being supported in your technical and professional development within SLR. As a senior consultant, you will act as a dependable and highly organised project controller, ensuring work is delivered efficiently, accurately and to SLR’s high quality standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Leading and managing geoenvironmental investigations (with a focus on geochemistry), including close integration with erosion and landform evolution assessment, surface water management and land disturbance programs.
- Delivering projects with strong financial, schedule and quality control, demonstrating consistent, reliable and proactive project management.
- Preparing, reviewing and delivering clear, well‑structured and influential technical reports, proposals and client correspondence, with a high standard of written communication.
- Working collaboratively beneath and alongside senior technical leaders, contributing to technically complex problem‑solving while continually learning from subject‑matter experts.
- Providing strategic input into geoenvironmental components of mine development, operations, rehabilitation, closure and post‑closure projects.
- Supporting tendering and proposal development, including scope definition, methodology development and cost estimation.
- Identifying and supporting business growth opportunities across geochemistry, mine waste and landform design services.
- Acting as a mentoring and supporting junior staff with a calm, caring and technically rigorous approach.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will demonstrate the following:
- Strong technical expertise in environmental science (geochemistry and mining experience would be highly regarded) within a consulting environment.
- Demonstrated experience in erosion and landform design principles in mine planning, construction, operation and closure phases.
- Proven ability to act as a highly dependable and organised project manager/controller, delivering complex projects on time, within budget and to a consistently high technical standard.
- Advanced technical writing capability, including preparation of complex interpretive reports and multidisciplinary deliverables.
- Experience in mine closure planning, EIAs, feasibility studies, due diligence assessments, regulatory compliance and approvals.
- Ability to provide clear direction for field investigations and technical programmes, ensuring safety, efficiency and data quality.
- Experience supporting junior staff and technical leads through technical review and knowledge sharing.
- Client‑facing capability, with experience acting as a primary technical contact and contributing to long‑term client relationships.
- A collaborative mindset and genuine enthusiasm for working within multidisciplinary teams under respected technical leaders.
- Experience in modelling in the land and water fields would be highly regarded (e.g. Deswik, leapfrog, IoGass, GoldSim, hydrus)
- A strong commitment to health and safety.
