Description of Work

This position will provide all state benefits including paid vacation and sick leave, health insurance, and retirement.
This is an Engineering Technician I position located in the District 2/Resident Office or District 2/Construction Office involving technical work supporting technicians and engineers in construction inspection, guardrail inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control. Two (2) positions will be filled from this posting. Positions 60022013 and 60021902 requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non- standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data. This work involves limited decision making and use of judgment. The successful applicant must perform a full range of calculations and computations. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions. You must perform a full range of calculations and computations and be proficient in record keeping. Safety toe shoes required.
You do not have to have a degree to qualify for this position. Applicants with at least two years of related experience are highly encouraged to apply.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC07: $37,377 – $65,408 Annually
Management prefers applicants with the following:
Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience
Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Salary for a trainee may be set at a lower level than the classification salary range and recruitment range that is listed in the posting with the salary being adjusted up accordingly when the trainee has obtained the necessary additional education and experience to fully meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the classification specification.
