Job description
About the role
This is a hands-on role at the heart of product delivery. You’ll help develop and integrate the hardware and software that make up Constellation, our automated manufacturing system, and you’ll play a key part in informing subsystem design and delivering a reliable system.
What you’ll do
You’ll do hands-on work within a multi-disciplinary product team to bring our system to life and ensure its performance.
You’ll get to:
- Bring hardware and software subsystems together in a robust and reliable way across the entire product development lifecycle, from early prototypes through to production releases
- Develop software for controlling mechatronic systems and monitoring their performance
- Plan and run integration tests and experiments, then turn results into clear conclusions and practical next steps
- Troubleshoot complex mechatronic systems, finding root causes and feeding insights back into design
- Write strong technical documentation, including experiment protocols and reports
- Work closely with engineers across robotics, software, hardware, and systems, in a fast-paced environment
- Steer our product and processes to ensure quality and facilitate a smooth handover to product verification
About you
You’ll thrive here if you like making complex systems work in the real world, not just on paper. You’ll enjoy being the person who spots what doesn’t line up between subsystems, works through the ambiguity, and leaves things clearer and better than you found them.
You’ll bring:
- Proven experience developing, integrating and troubleshooting complex mechatronic systems in an industrial R&D context
- A track record of solving the hardest multidisciplinary problems through structured root cause analysis and using your understanding to guide design teams
- Experience developing software for hardware-focused applications
- Proficiency in at least one modern programming language, preferably Python
- Strong technical analysis and documentation skills, including writing experiment protocols, processing results, and reporting findings
- Confident communication and collaboration skills, that make you comfortable working across disciplines and balancing priorities
- A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline
Desirable experience that will help you hit the ground running:
- Industrial, networked communication protocols such as MQTT
- Robotic hardware and prototyping software such as ROS
- Strong Python skills, including object-oriented programming and design patterns
- Familiarity with electrical and/or mechanical design tools and processes
