What does a successful Lead DevOps Engineer do at Fiserv?

The Lead DevOps Engineer is a DevOps and Platform Engineering leader who acts as a force multiplier for engineering teams. This role champions modern DevOps, GitOps, and SRE principles while enabling product teams to build, test, secure, and deploy software rapidly and reliably across the full Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Working within cross‑functional, distributed Agile teams, the Senior DevOps Engineer designs and delivers scalable CI/CD platforms, cloud‑native infrastructure, and developer productivity tooling. The role is instrumental in fostering a DevSecOps culture, embedding security and quality by design, and leveraging automation and AI‑assisted workflows to accelerate delivery and improve reliability.

What you will do

  • Play a lead role in the design and implementation of a best-in-class software build and release technology solutions across multiple scrum teams and domains.
  • Implementation of Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Delivery (CD) through automation and integration with our developer tooling.
  • Delivering best practices in DevSecOps including CI/CD, SCM, Security practices.
  • Perform regular demos to key stakeholders and consumers.
  • Be an active participant and influencer in the development community and share your knowledge and experience across the organisation.
  • Maintain technical documentation and conduct training to Scrum teams in the use of SCM and CI/CD tooling.
  • Engage with Scrum teams and other stakeholders to identify and prioritise gaps and include in our backlog for prioritisation and implementation.
  • Participate in the release planning activities, roadmap and backlog grooming.
  • Drive initiatives to improve delivery through DevOps and release on demand practices and ensure built-in quality in the SDLC.
  • Help the team drive a DevOps culture to create a best in class, high performing teams with a continuous improvement mind-set focused on delivering customer value.
  • Support Release Manger and coordination of platform deployments
  • Assist with Change Management planning and weekly reviews
  • Assist with monthly OS patching coordination and validation

What you need to have

  • Total Experience – 8 to 13 years
  • Expert knowledge of CI/CD and associated tooling including Gitlab CI, Jenkins, Argo CD, Rundeck or similar.
  • Expert on modern git-based Source Code Management platform(s) with expert knowledge of git branching strategies such as Git-flow.
  • Experience with observability tooling, ideally Dynatrace (APM, Kubernetes monitoring, service-level visibility)
  • Extensive hands-on experience of Cloud automation using Infrastructure as Code
  • Expert in one or more programming languages e.g., Java, Python, Shell Scripting or similar.
  • Experience with configuration management tooling including Terraform, Ansible or similar.
  • Advanced working knowledge of secure coding practices, cybersecurity, vulnerability management, source code and artifact provenience and associated tooling including OSA/SCA, SAST, DAST.
  • Experience with Source Code Static Analysis / Quality tools such as SonarQube
  • Hands-on production experience with Kubernetes (microservices) (from Docker image to deployment, ingress / Istio)
  • Extensive experience of build automation across the complete project life cycle, in an Agile environment.
  • Experience of build management in a multi-platform distributed team.
  • Experience with container and container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes).
  • Apply GenAI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot) to improve productivity, code quality, documentation, and analysis.
  • Leverage ML, NLP, or AI automation to optimize workflows, testing, data analysis, or product development.
  • Translate business problems into AI‑driven use cases with measurable outcomes.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate AI models, automation pipelines, or intelligent assistants into products.
  • Ensure ethical AI usage, data governance compliance, and secure handling of model outputs.
  • Stay updated with emerging AI technologies and recommend adoption strategies.

  • Experience using AI copilots for productivity and quality improvement.
  • Capable of writing effective prompts, verifying responses, and applying results.
  • Understanding of AI concepts: LLMs, NLP, embeddings, RAG, automation, model safety.
  • Hands‑on with AI tools such as:
  • GitHub Copilot
  • Microsoft Copilot
  • OpenAI GPT models
  • Azure AI Studio
  • AI testing tools
  • Ability to evaluate AI outputs for correctness, security, and bias.
