Job Summary: The Sustainability Manager in Yellowstone National Park assists the Director of Sustainability in advancing Yellowstone’s environmental programs. The Sustainability Manager will work with the Director to further environmental sustainability in Yellowstone’s operational areas of solid waste management; energy and water efficiency; pollution prevention and waste reduction; sustainable design and construction practices; hazardous materials management; environmental communication and education; environmental procurement strategies; fuel tank management; green retail; storm water management; renewable energy; transportation; integrated pest management; and dark sky protection. The Details: Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round Pay: Starting salary for this position is $75,088 annually Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays) Why Yellowstone National Park? Responsibilities Lead and coordinate park-wide environmental programs, including EMS (ISO 14001) documentation, inspections, training, and corrective action tracking Ensure compliance with National Park Service, state, and federal environmental regulations (e.g., hazardous waste, underground storage tanks, reporting) Serve as an internal subject matter expert, advising departments and leaders on environmental programs and compliance Hire, train, and manage sustainability and recycling teams; provide ongoing coaching and operational support Drive continuous improvement of waste diversion programs (recycling, compost, hazardous waste) to increase compliance and reduce contamination Track and analyze utilities and environmental metrics (energy, water, waste, emissions) to inform decisions and improve performance Develop and deliver employee training and partner with communications teams to promote environmental awareness for staff and guests Lead sustainability initiatives, certifications, and innovation efforts, while representing the organization in community engagement, audits, and industry collaboration Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in environmental, hospitality, or technically-related field Excellent written and verbal communication skills. The position must communicate effectively with all levels of employees to identify opportunities to minimize the environmental impacts of Xanterra’s operations Past experience in collaboration and problem-solving across interdisciplinary topics and interdepartmental needs Proven ability to build productive relationships by positively interacting with coworkers and clients and a spirit of innovation and creativity to foster efficiency and engagement A personality and style that inspires others, encourages employees to present their ideas, and motivates a highly diverse group of people to understand what is expected and how to participate in meeting those objectives Capacity to apply a high level of independent direction to prioritizing and effectively progressing responsibilities in a fast-paced environment Well-developed personal computer skills (MS Office Suite) Experience delivering targeted presentations to a wide variety of audiences and stakeholders, including in an educational setting Willingness to occasionally work inconsistent hours, including holidays, evenings, and weekends Willingness to cover recycling shifts on an as-needed basis, and the ability to execute the physical responsibilities as defined below Comfortable living and working in a remote, rural environment Passion for national parks and public lands Preferred: Advanced degree (or current enrollment in a program) and/or commensurate professional sustainability and environmental compliance experience is preferred. Three (or more) years of experience working in the sustainability industry or adjacent fields; p referably with experience managing projects or programs Experience implementing an ISO 14001 certified Environmental Management System or similar program Experience working with web-based GHG emissions tracking software Applicable accreditations or certifications (e.g. LEED, TRUE Advisor, HAZWOPER, etc.) Physical Requirements include: Must be able to: Stand and bend throughout an 8-hour shift Complete full 8+ hour recycling shifts Frequently walk and scale stairs, including on uneven or slippery surfaces, while carrying materials such as recyclables and associated equipment Infrequently lift and carry 50+ pounds, and push or pull wheeled bins 100+ pounds Handle used recyclables, which may contain liquid or food Have a valid driver’s license Operate box trucks, lift gates, and cardboard compacter Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) Work at elevations of more than 6,000 feet Work in inclement weather with varying temperatures throughout the day We are an Equal Opportunity Employer.
