Overview Will consider candidates near other TRC offices ( https://www\.trccompanies\.com/offices/\ ) TRC is seeking a Director of Architecture – Geospatial Solutions to lead the architectural vision, design, and delivery of enterprise and operational geospatial solutions for clients in the utility, infrastructure, and environmental sectors. This role is responsible for defining end-to-end geospatial solution architecture that integrates GIS platforms, spatial analytics, enterprise IT systems, and operational technologies to support planning, operations, asset management, and decision-making. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in GIS architecture, spatial data platforms, enterprise integration, and cloud-based geospatial solutions, and is comfortable engaging with executive stakeholders, delivery teams, software vendors, and regulators to drive transformational, data-driven outcomes. Responsibilities Geospatial Architecture & Strategy Define and evolve enterprise geospatial architecture frameworks aligned to business objectives, regulatory requirements, and data governance standards. Lead architectural design for large-scale GIS and geospatial platforms, including Esri ArcGIS Enterprise/Online, spatial data warehouses, utility network models, and location intelligence solutions. Ensure interoperability and integration between GIS, enterprise IT systems (ERP, EAM, CIS), analytics platforms, and operational systems. Provide architectural leadership for initiatives involving digital twins, asset and network modeling, field mobility, spatial analytics, and geospatial enablement of utility operations. Support raising TRC’s profile as an industry leader in geospatial innovation by developing marketing artifacts, authoring industry articles or blogs, and presenting at conferences. Leadership Lead and manage a team of Geospatial Architects, fostering collaboration, innovation, and professional growth. Act as a trusted advisor and thought leader to client executives and senior management on geospatial strategy and digital transformation. Establish and enforce geospatial architecture governance, standards, and best practices across projects and portfolios. Mentor and guide geospatial architects and delivery teams on architecture principles, patterns, and emerging technologies. Program & Solution Delivery Serve as the geospatial technical authority across delivery teams, ensuring alignment to the architectural vision, standards, and best practices. Lead solution and architecture design reviews, validate technical feasibility, and oversee implementation across multiple concurrent geospatial initiatives. Partner with clients to understand business and operational requirements and translate them into scalable, secure, and supportable geospatial solutions. Drive technology and vendor selection, including GIS software, cloud platforms, data providers, and system integrators. Lead efforts to define repeatable and innovative geospatial solutions that enhance TRC’s core service offerings and client value. Commercial Support & Go-To-Market Enablement Support and drive client engagement and business development activities related to geospatial and location-based solutions. Collaborate with sales teams and Practice Leadership through direct participation in client calls, workshops, and site visits, providing thought leadership on complex geospatial challenges. Lead and support proposal responses by defining solution architectures, writing key technical sections, and supporting cost estimates and delivery approaches. Contribute to staffing strategies by attracting, mentoring, and developing high-performing geospatial architects and technical leaders. Data Governance, Security & Compliance Ensure geospatial solutions align with data governance, privacy, and security requirements, including access controls and data lifecycle management. Partner with cybersecurity and data governance teams to assess risks and define controls for enterprise and cloud-based geospatial environments. Support compliance with industry standards and client-specific regulatory requirements related to spatial data and infrastructure systems. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master’s degree or MBA preferred. 12–15+ years of experience in geospatial/GIS architecture, delivery, and leadership within utilities, infrastructure, engineering, or related industries. Deep technical expertise in GIS platforms (e.g., Esri ArcGIS Enterprise/Online), spatial databases, and utility network or asset data models. Strong background in systems integration, enterprise architecture, data architecture, and API-based integrations. Experience designing and delivering cloud, hybrid, and on-prem geospatial solutions, including spatial analytics and visualization platforms. Familiarity with data governance, security, and resiliency considerations for enterprise geospatial environments. Proven experience leading vendors, RFP processes, solution evaluations, and partner relationships. Strong communication skills with the ability to translate complex geospatial concepts for executive, technical, and non-technical audiences.
