Job description
The Benefits Manager is responsible for managing the day‑to‑day administration and operational execution of the organization’s benefits programs. This role focuses on managing benefits processes, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and a high‑quality employee experience. The Benefits Manager serves as a senior technical resource and may directly manage one Benefits Administrator, while partnering closely with the Benefits Director, who retains overall strategic oversight and vendor‑renewal leadership.
This role is ideal for a highly experienced benefits analyst ready to formalize people leadership and take ownership of operational effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities
Benefits Operations & Process Management
- Own and manage end‑to‑end benefits administration processes, including eligibility, enrollments, life events, terminations, and vendor file feeds with a focus on accuracy, quality control and operational redundancy.
- Develop, document, and continuously improve standard operating procedures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and scalability.
- Monitor and ensure timely and accurate execution of benefits processes across health, welfare, and retirement programs.
People Management & Oversight
- Provide direct supervision, coaching, and performance management for up to one Benefits Administrator.
- Review work output for accuracy and compliance; provide guidance on complex cases and escalations as part of a formal quality assurance framework.
- Lead cross-training and continuity planning within benefits operations to reduce key-person dependency and ensure uninterrupted service.
Open Enrollment & Program Execution
- Manage the operational execution of annual open enrollment, including system configuration, testing, employee data integrity, and post‑enrollment audits, ensuring back-up coverage, process validation and error prevention.
- Partner with the Benefits Director on enrollment planning, timeline development, and vendor coordination.
- Ensure operational readiness for program changes directed by leadership.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure benefits processes comply with applicable regulations (e.g., ACA, ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA).
- Manage day‑to‑day compliance activities such as audits, reporting support, and documentation maintenance.
- Partner with Payroll, HR Operations, and Legal to resolve compliance or data issues.
HRIS & Data Management
- Serve as the primary owner of benefits configuration and data integrity within the HRIS and benefits administration platforms.
- Run regular audits and reconciliations to ensure accurate payroll deductions and vendor billing.
- Generate standard operational reports and provide data support to the Benefits Director as needed.
Employee & Stakeholder Support
- Act as an escalation point for complex employee benefit inquiries and case resolution.
- Provide guidance to HR partners and managers on benefits processes and policies.
- Support clear, accurate employee communications related to benefits administration.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7+ years of progressive experience in benefits administration or benefits analysis.
- Strong working knowledge of U.S. health and welfare and retirement plans.
- Demonstrated experience managing benefits processes, data, and systems.
- Experience mentoring or supervising others in an operational capacity.
- Advanced attention to detail, strong problem‑solving skills, and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Proficiency on MS suite of products (Office, Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and HRIS software (experience with Workday a plus).
Compensation
Base Pay Range: $108,000 - $130,000
Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies and experience, and location. Base pay is one part of our total awards approach to compensation which is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work, and this role may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses or incentives.

Public Storage teammates are expected to work in the office five days each week with the option to take up to three flexible remote days per month.
