Job Description:
The Camp Counselor [B] will support the supervision, safety, and engagement of students participating in the Goucher College Summer Enrichment Program residential experience. This role focuses on providing mentorship, community building, and structured supervision within the residence halls while also assisting with program activities and student support.
Under the direct supervision of the Program Director and Lead Counselors, Overnight Counselors will live in the residence halls and serve as a primary point of contact for students during evening and overnight hours. Counselors will help create a safe, inclusive, and supportive residential environment while facilitating community-building activities and ensuring students follow program expectations.
This position offers hands-on experience in student supervision, residential life, youth mentorship, and program support within a college-based summer enrichment program. The role closely mirrors responsibilities of a Resident Assistant, providing valuable experience in student development, leadership, and residential community management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Residential Supervision & Student Support
- Live in assigned residence halls and provide overnight supervision of program participants
- Serve as a primary point of contact for students during evening and overnight hours
- Conduct nightly check-ins, room checks, and ensure students follow program policies and curfew procedures
- Respond to student concerns, roommate conflicts, or emergencies and report issues to Lead Counselors or program leadership
- Foster a safe, welcoming, and inclusive residential community for all students
- Model appropriate behavior and maintain professional boundaries while supporting student well-being
Evening Programming & Community Building
- Plan and facilitate evening activities that encourage student engagement and community building
- Supervise students during evening recreational and enrichment activities
- Support structured social programming within residence halls and campus spaces
- Encourage positive peer relationships and a respectful residential environment
Working with Lead Counselors and Program Staff
- Collaborate with Lead Counselors and program staff to ensure consistent communication regarding student needs and concerns
- Assist with escorting students between residential spaces and evening program activities
- Support the coordination and implementation of residential programming and logistics
- Communicate any incidents, behavioral concerns, or safety issues to program leadership in a timely manner
Summer Enrichment Program Support
- Assist with occasional daytime program responsibilities as needed
- Support special events, program activities, and student engagement initiatives
- Help maintain a safe and structured environment for all program participants
Staff Member Responsibilities
- Attend staff meetings and program briefings as assigned
- Participate in staff training sessions prior to the start of the program
- Assist with program events and activities as needed
- Perform other program-related duties as assigned
Amount of Time Worked
- Primary responsibilities during evening and overnight hours throughout the two-week program
- Residential supervision typically 11:00pm-7:00am
Remuneration:
Overnight responsibilities will be compensated at a rate of $15/hour for up to 8-hour overnight shifts.
Overnight Schedule:
- Week 1: Monday, June 15 – Thursday, June 18 (3 nights)
- Week 2: Sunday, June 21 – Friday, June 26 (5 nights)
Total of 8 overnight shifts across the program.
Timeline: Completed with the position by end of day June 26, 2026

Employment Requirements:
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of:
- CJIS Background Check (FBI and Maryland)
- CPS Background Check
Staff will be reimbursed for the fingerprinting fee of $50, which will be added to their final payment.
Education and/or Experience:
Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program or interested in first-year orientation, campus/student event management, leadership development, and student advisement. Currently enrolled in a Master’s Program in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Education, Social Work or related fields.
In addition, the successful candidate must be dependable and have excellent interpersonal communication skills (written, oral, and electronic). Candidates must demonstrate integrity, initiative, openness, teamwork, and a positive attitude. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to higher education, student development, and diversity/inclusion.
