Job description

AECOM’s Buildings and Places team in Ohio is looking for a Senior Architect to take on the role of a Project Manager. The Ohio B+P practice—based in Columbus and Cleveland—is a high‑performing, award‑winning studio offering integrated architecture, interiors, engineering, urbanism, advisory, technology, and digital delivery services. Operating collaboratively across AECOM’s West Region and other business lines, the Ohio team serves a diverse, global client base spanning civic, cultural, higher education, science and technology, transit, and federal agencies (including NASA, GSA, VA, and DoD).

Design excellence is central to our culture, earning nearly 30 awards since 2022. We strive to be both the design firm of choice for clients and an employer of choice for top talent.

The Architectural Project Manager provides senior leadership across client development, project delivery, and team leadership, owning outcomes from pursuit through post‑occupancy. This is a seller‑doer role requiring strong client presence, technical expertise, and operational rigor.

  • Deliver revenue growth through repeat and expanded client engagements
  • Represent AECOM in the marketplace as a trusted advisor and brand ambassador

Project Delivery & Risk Management

  • Lead interdisciplinary projects from early studies through construction administration
  • Manage scope, schedule, budget, quality, and risk across the project lifecycle
  • Develop and maintain project plans, performance metrics, and documentation
  • Proactively manage change and coordinate with legal and leadership to mitigate risk

Team Leadership & Culture

  • Inspire, mentor, and coordinate high‑performing internal and external teams
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and communicative team environment
  • Support recruiting and development of emerging and peer leaders

Design & Technical Excellence

  • Champion design quality, innovation, and performance at all scales
  • Encourage modern delivery approaches, including AI and digital tools

Operational Performance

  • Monitor and report project financials, schedules, deliverables, and client health
  • Apply earned value, schedule controls, and other best‑practice PM techniques
  • Utilize Microsoft Project and Power BI for planning and performance reporting

Success in the First Year

  • Win or expand key client accounts through effective relationship building and pursuits
  • Successfully deliver 2–4 complex projects meeting schedule, budget, quality, and client satisfaction goals
  • Improve team clarity, collaboration, and delivery efficiency
  • Contribute to design recognition, client testimonials, and repeat business

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field and 6+ years of relevant experience (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

  • 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Architectural licensure preferred; engineering licensure considered with architectural project leadership experience
  • PMP certification or equivalent
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; strong working knowledge of Microsoft Project and Power BI
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Experience with complex new construction and major renovations
  • Expertise in advanced project management practices (earned value, change management, target value design, schedule management)
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and communication skills
  • Business development experience with existing and new clients
  • Knowledge of alternative delivery methods (Design‑Build, CMaR, etc.); DBIA certification a plus
  • Interest or experience integrating AI into architectural and engineering services
