Job description
The Electrical Specialist will render professional on-site technical support to operations to ensure electrical integrity to all electrical equipment across the complex is maintained to high standards.
Job responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Review and development of maintenance tactics for all LV and MV electrical equipment
- Review of Condition Monitoring reports to provide clear and formal defect elimination close out recommendations.
- Conduct electrical protection settings audits to ensure correct settings are used
- Assist with breakdowns fault finding analysis and participate in RCA processes.
- Monitor quality of supply and investigate all network disturbances
- Monitor quality of supply and investigate all network disturbances
- Monitor PFC equipment status to ensure correct power factor correction.
- Ensure timeous updates of single line drawings SLD’s and manage ETAP updates.
- Complete electrical self-assessments audit findings
- Visit sites and equipment locations on the mine and undertake equipment audits and inspections in respect to engineering workmanship, quality and compliance with engineering policies, procedures and standards
- Conduct Substations audits and implement tracking and monitoring system
- Conduct monthly electrical billing verifications and ensure electrical metering equipment availability.
- This role is Band 6 level reporting to Senior Engineer Electrical and Energy
This role is at a Band 6 level reporting to Section Engineering Manager
Qualifications Section
- Grade 12 or equivalent
- Diploma / Degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or Relevant Trade in Electrical.
- Electrical Engineering Foreman Certificate advantageous
Experience
- Minimum 8 Years operational experience of which 5 years in a foreman or Supervisor position in the Mining, Processing and Utilities industry

- Medium Voltage Overhead Power Lines
- Medium voltage and low voltage distribution systems.
- System earthing and lightning protection.
- Electrical Protection and grading.
- Power and distribution transformers.
- Liquid resistance starters.
- MV and LV Variable speed drives.
- Diesel generators.
- Uninterruptible power supply systems.
- Fire detection and suppression.
- Electrical metering
- Intelligent motor protection.
