The Payroll Supervisor will assist the payroll manager to oversee the end-to-end payroll function, ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing while maintaining full tax compliance for federal, state, and local regulations. This role will lead daily payroll operations with focus on payroll tax activities, support process improvements, and serve as a key point of escalation for complex payroll matters. The ideal candidate brings strong operational expertise and attention to detail while managing fast paced payroll processing in tight timelines. RBI follows a 5 day, in-office work schedule to support collaboration. Candidates should be comfortable working onsite 5 days per week out of our office in Syracuse, NY.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Operations Management
Assist the payroll manager with the full payroll cycle including data validation, payroll calculation, review, and finalization
Understand the multi-state tax processing, review change of location tax update triggers, apply for necessary tax registrations due to employee relocation
Monitor payroll deadlines and maintain strict adherence to processing schedules
Review payroll reports, variances, and exception items prior to final approval
Year-end tax documents review, issue of W2s
Experience in handling 941s, 941x, state tax filings – Monthly, Quarterly, Annual
Integration oversight across various platforms
Team Leadership and Oversight
Supervise and support payroll staff, providing guidance and coaching as needed
Assign workload and ensure team accountability across payroll processes
Act as escalation point for complex payroll issues and employee inquiries
Compliance and Controls
Ensure compliance with all applicable payroll laws, tax regulations, and company policies
Oversee garnishments, tax withholdings, and statutory deductions
Support internal and external audits and ensure proper documentation is maintained
Maintain strong internal controls and continuously improve payroll processes
Payroll Administration
Utilize payroll systems for payroll processing, audits, and reporting
Troubleshoot payroll system issues and partner with HRIS or IT as needed
Support system enhancements, testing, and upgrades
Reconciliation and Reporting
Perform payroll reconciliations including payroll to general ledger
Review of tax jurisdictions, registrations, filings and reconciliations
Generate and analyze payroll metrics and reports for leadership
Process Improvement
Identify opportunities to streamline payroll operations and improve efficiency
Document and maintain standard operating procedures
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or related field preferred
5 plus years of payroll experience with at least 1 to 2 years in a supervisory role
Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
Experience processing multi state payroll
Hands-on experience with Peoplesoft and Workday Payroll strongly preferred
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability

Salary:
Base salary range of $80,000 – $95,000 annually. Base salary for this position may vary based on relevant factors such as experience, education, location, and skills.
This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual discretionary bonus plan, subject to the terms and conditions of the incentive program, based on individual and company performance metrics. This position may also be eligible for additional compensation in the form of equity grants pursuant to the Company’s long-term incentive plan.
