Position Overview:
The Director of Employee Engagement is a key leadership role within AbbVie's Corporate Responsibility & Global Philanthropy (CRGP) team, sitting within Corporate Affairs, responsible for shaping strategy and execution for all AbbVie Gives Back programs. These enterprise-wide initiatives, housed within the AbbVie Foundation, unite employees around a shared culture of giving and community impact.
This role drives measurable results at scale. Key outcomes include raising $25M through the employee giving program, achieving a 50% volunteerism participation rate, and delivering a Net Promoter Score above 75%. By fostering belonging, inclusion, and a spirit of generosity, the Director strengthens AbbVie's core values from the inside out by amplifying the company's investment in its people, enhancing its reputation, and building meaningful partnerships with nonprofit organizations and the communities they serve. Reporting to the Senior Director of Global Philanthropy, this role leads a team of two direct reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the design, strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of the AbbVie Foundation's employee engagement, giving, volunteering, and relief/support programs (AbbVie Gives Back).
Lead, inspire, motivate, and develop direct reports and the wider team, fostering a culture of high performance, inclusion, collaboration, innovation, and accountability.
Oversee a $30M+ annual budget, managing resources, timelines, and stakeholder expectations to ensure programs are delivered on time and within scope.
Stay current on philanthropy trends, employee engagement best practices, and the corporate foundation landscape to inform program strategy.
Lead key enterprise initiatives: Week of Possibilities, the Employee Giving Campaign, and the AbbVie Foundation Scholarship Program, including strategic planning, program development, process management, and affiliate partnerships.
Build strong partnerships with AbbVie leaders, external stakeholders, and community organizations, both in the U.S. and globally.
Serve as lead for AbbVie Foundation employee relief during disasters and crises; act as a key representative and decision-maker on the CRGP Crisis Action Team.
Develop strategic communications and innovative initiatives for AbbVie Gives Back that drive employee participation, deliver measurable results, and articulate the AbbVie Foundation's story.
Monitor, analyze, and accurately report on key metrics, including employee participation, net promoter scores, and social determinants of health, to measure impact and inform strategy.
Work closely with direct reports and partners to proactively anticipate, identify, and resolve challenges, driving programs to achieve meaningful impact.
Act as the chief storyteller for engagement programs, equipping communicators with compelling content to enhance AbbVie's reputation.
Education and Experience:
8–10 years of experience in employee engagement, corporate philanthropy, health equity, patient advocacy and/or a related field.
Required technical skills include a working knowledge of and experience with Benevity, CyberGrants, and YourCause platforms.
Strong leadership skills and comfort operating in a demanding, fast-paced environment with high senior leadership visibility and high-stakes outcomes; adaptable, resourceful and creative.
Experience managing direct reports.
Political sensitivity and executive presence; adept at working with senior leaders and diverse external constituencies.
Skilled in using data to inform and measure program impact; able to translate insights into compelling storytelling.
Strong communication, integrity, critical thinking, and interpersonal skills.
Proven organizational and project management skills with meticulous attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
Strong business acumen: ability to anticipate needs and proactively recommend solutions.
Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
