The Cafeteria Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of employee and retail dining services at Montefiore Einstein. This role ensures efficient food service operations, fiscal accountability, regulatory compliance, and high‑quality customer service while supervising cafeteria staff and collaborating with other food service leaders across the campus.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the daily operation of the cafeteria and employee dining services to ensure high standards of food quality, sanitation, and customer service.
- Demonstrates the ability to work collaboratively with supervisors and cashiers to:
- Set menu pricing
- Handle banking and cash control issues
- Generate and review reports from the MICROS cash handling system as needed.
- Responsible for accurate ordering and inventory management of daily and weekly food items, including bread, milk, beverages, and supplements.
- Communicates effectively with managers, supervisors, and staff regarding:
- Shift changes
- Employee call‑outs
- Equipment malfunctions
- Operational concerns.
- Supervises staff scheduling, work assignments, and daily performance to ensure operational efficiency.
- Ensures compliance with Montefiore policies, NYSDOH regulations, and food safety standards.
- Monitors cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of all assigned cafeteria and service areas.
- Coordinates equipment maintenance and promptly reports repair needs.
- Trains, coaches, and supports onboarding of new cafeteria staff.
- Maintains a safe, respectful, and customer‑focused dining environment.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required
Experience
- Minimum 1–3 years of administrative and/or supervisory experience in a food service or hospitality environment required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Working knowledge of food service operations and cash handling systems
- Proficiency with basic computer applications (e.g., Excel, reporting systems)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced environment
- Demonstrated leadership and staff supervision skills
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
- Moderate lifting and physical activity as required
- Exposure to kitchen and cafeteria environments, including temperature changes and noise
