JOB DESCRIPTION:
As a Manager of ESL Programs, you’ll leverage experience with effective content-based language instruction and instructional coaching to drive academic outcomes for emergent bilingual students. You'll serve as a language acquisition expert, utilizing your understanding of ESL, CBLI, and newcomer program frameworks and evidence-based language strategies to drive academic achievement and language development across secondary grade bands and content areas.
With a focus on effectively implementing KIPP Texas's multilingual products and frameworks, such as Get Ready!, Summit K12, and 7 Steps to a Language-Rich Interactive Classroom, you’ll directly coach teachers, Assistant Principals of Student Services (APSS) and school leaders on effective strategies to support multilingual KIPPsters. Through strong coaching and ongoing progress monitoring, you’ll play a vital role in improving academic and linguistic outcomes across our campuses.
Key Focus Areas
Focus on Achievement: Demonstrate a deep desire and record of results to support schools with closing achievement gaps for all emergent bilingual learners. Understand the research and importance of comprehensible input strategies to engage all emergent bilingual learners. Hold high expectations for themselves as well as the leaders and teachers to remove barriers for multilingual learners from academic achievement. Use research and various levels of data analysis to focus on student outcomes and how they are achieved to support responsiveness to both strengths and areas of opportunities for emergent bilingual learners.
Content Expert: Demonstrate expertise and understanding of multilingual frameworks, pedagogy, and instructional materials in an area of content expertise. You have experience effectively implementing KIPP Texas’s chosen resources and frameworks such as Get Ready!, Summit K12, and 7 Steps to a Language-Rich Interactive Classroom. Stay well-informed of current curricular and educational thoughts, trends, and practices, as well as legislation impacting multilingual programming.
- Effective Coach: Lead instructional improvement efforts on a portfolio of schools by planning and facilitating professional learning, modeling effective CBLI strategies, observing classroom instruction, and providing actionable feedback to classroom teachers, APSSs, and school leaders.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Effectively coach teachers to improve instructional effectiveness
Provide support to secondary schools by:
Partnering with the school-based leadership team, specifically by coaching APSS, with a focus to impact the execution of CBLI strategies to meet the affective, linguistic, and cognitive needs of EB students through content.
Leading APSS and teachers in setting clear, measurable goals and providing ongoing support to plan and execute effective CBLI strategies through targeted observation and professional development
Conducting individualized coaching sessions with APSS to observe ELDA instruction, provide feedback, and collaboratively develop actionable strategies for improving comprehensible and compelling input for newcomers.
Ensure consistent implementation of the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) and linguistic accommodations aligned to students’ language proficiency levels.
Facilitate professional learning communities that drive emergent bilingual achievement
Provide support to secondary schools and APSS by:
Planning & co-leading content team focused on the execution of CBLI strategies within the adopted KIPP Texas instructional materials
Planning & co-leading data team meetings focused on the academic and language achievement of emergent bilingual students by analyzing cohort comparison data and summit K12 data trends
Leading school-based practice clinics & teach backs focused on CBLI strategies
Leading weekly PLCs for APSSs of multilingual education in their execution of ELDA, Summit K12 and CBLI strategies
Engage in continuous data analysis and action planning
Provide support to secondary schools by:
In collaboration with the school leader managers & leadership teams, craft and implement strategic response plans to meet the KTX emergent bilingual targets, including TELPAS growth and Domain III targets.
Supporting school leader managers & school leadership teams in progress monitoring actions that drive academic achievement and language development for all current and monitored emergent bilingual students.
Coaching APSSs of multilingual education on effective cohort data analysis practices
Analyzing school-specific and regional data to identify emergent bilingual trends and support the development of response plans to meet annual goals
Progress monitor state and federal guidelines and policies
Provide support to secondary schools by:
Ensure that all state and federal guidelines are implemented across portfolio of schools by working collaboratively with KTX compliance managers and campus APSS
Assist with Title III engagement activities to increase and strengthen the family, parent, and community connections and supports to emergent bilingual learners
Support KIPP teachers in acquiring required Bilingual and ESL certification with the support of the HR and talent teams
Assist with planning the Newcomer Summer Language Program recruitment, hiring, training, and monitor effectiveness aligned to students' growth
Collaborate with regional and school-level CTCs to facilitate and monitor campus TELPAS testing plans for successful and accurate data collection
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree, relevant Master’s degree in Multilingual Education preferred
Minimum of 2 years experience as a successful assistant principal, school leader, or full-time or bilingual instructional coach at a secondary campus, or district level preferred
Proven record of results driving emergent bilingual academic and linguistic growth

Deep knowledge of content-based language instruction (CBLI)
Leadership in planning and monitoring multilingual compliance policies

Work Environment:
Hybrid work - Reports to the central office or schools three days a week
Travel Requirements:
Regular: May travel to other school sites or regional offices for professional learning, meetings and other work related activities.
