Vision and Sensing Systems – Ice, Rain and Stall (IRS) Engineering team based in Burnsville, Minnesota is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support continued growth within the product organization.  In this high visibility role, the Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for working on integrated project teams to develop new, advanced IRS products while also supporting existing products in production.  The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the mechanical portions in all phases of new product introduction from requirements development through design and verification testing, to implementation at full rate production and sustainment support.  The Mechanical Engineer will have access to a world class wind tunnel, environmental test lab, and forensics investigation lab to help our team continue delivering industry leading sensor solutions.  The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter capable of driving tasks and medium-sized projects to completion while meeting schedule and budget requirements. 

What You Will Do:

  • Contribute to the design, development, and sustainment of Ice, Rain, and Stall (IRS) sensing systems as part of integrated project teams

  • Support all phases of new product introduction, from requirements development and concept design through verification testing and full-rate production

  • Review product specifications to define mechanical design requirements and scope

  • Develop and evaluate design concepts, including trade studies and tolerance analyses to ensure optimal performance and fit

  • Create and execute test documentation, including test plans, procedures, and reports; support verification testing efforts

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to coordinate testing and development activities

  • Fabricate and assemble prototypes and test fixtures in a laboratory environment

  • Specify and evaluate material joining methods (e.g., bolted joints, adhesives, brazing)

  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions for design or production issues

  • Partner with global engineering teams on technical design tasks

  • Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) and International Trade Compliance (ITC) requirements

What You Will Learn:

  • End-to-end product development within advanced aerospace sensing systems

  • Hands-on experience with environmental testing, wind tunnel operations, and failure analysis investigations

  • Cross-functional collaboration within multidisciplinary engineering teams

  • Application of design for manufacturability, reliability, and performance in real-world systems

  • Exposure to global engineering operations and production support processes

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 2 years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field

  • 2–5 years of relevant engineering experience

  • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Proficiency in CAD solid modeling (Creo preferred)

  • Experience with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools (Teamcenter preferred)

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail

The salary range for this role is 68,900 USD - 131,100 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
