OVERVIEW Merrick is seeking a fully remote Estimator I to support preconstruction and cost estimating efforts for industrial, manufacturing, bioprocessing and infrastructure projects. This role focuses on developing accurate, timely, and well-documented cost estimates that enable informed client decisions and support successful project execution. The Estimator I will report to the Manager of Construction Services and collaborate with a geographically distributed team of project managers, engineers, and senior estimators. This position is designed for remote delivery, leveraging digital tools, virtual collaboration, and cloud-based estimating platforms. Typical salary range for this position is $90,000.00 - $110,000.00. Pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. WHAT YOU'LL DO Assist in the preparation of conceptual (Class 5), schematic, and detailed (Class 1–3) construction cost estimates. Perform quantity takeoffs using digital drawings, specifications, and BIM models where available. Develop and maintain cost models, unit rates, and benchmarking data for industrial and manufacturing projects. Solicit, level, and analyze subcontractor and vendor pricing through remote bid processes. Support preparation of proposals, scopes of work, and client deliverables. Maintain and update historical cost databases and estimating systems. Participate in virtual estimate reviews, value engineering sessions, and scope alignment meetings. Coordinate closely with project teams to align estimates with schedules, procurement strategies, and execution plans. Support business development efforts through estimate input, pricing narratives, and proposal support. Conduct occasional virtual or limited travel-based site walkdowns, as required. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience). 0–3 years of experience in construction estimating, cost engineering, or related experience (internships acceptable). Fundamental understanding of construction methods, materials, and sequencing, preferably in industrial or manufacturing environments. Experience with digital takeoff and estimating tools (e.g., Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Excel). Strong analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail. Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documents remotely. Strong time management skills with the ability to work independently in a remote environment. Effective written and verbal communication skills for virtual collaboration. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Exposure to AACE estimate classifications (Class 5 through Class 1). Internship or co-op experience in estimating or construction. Familiarity with industrial process systems, equipment, and facilities within food & personal care, refining, oil & gas, energy, and manufacturing sectors. Experience working in a remote or distributed team environment. Exposure to Sage or Aspen programs PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS This is a remote position; however, occasional site visits may be required.
