Job description
The two positions are part of the Bushfire Management Function within the Conservation and Wildlife Service Unit led by the Bushfire Management Officer. This role works with City operations teams, contractors, DFES and volunteer brigades to deliver critical bushfire mitigation outcomes.
As an on-ground crew member, you will be responsible for delivering vegetation management and hazard-reduction treatments across City reserves and assets inline with the City's Bushfire Risk Management Plan. Your key responsibilities include:
- Undertake field risk assessments to inform the City’s bushfire mitigation program to protect community and natural environment assets
- Participate in prescribed burning operations and vegetation management treatments as directed
- Carry out plant identification, weed management, and pest control activities to support positive environmental outcomes
- Operate, use, and maintain equipment and tools in accordance with City policies, procedures, and safe work practices
- Comply with all workplace health and safety, environmental, and operational compliance requirements
- Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve bushfire risk reduction objectives
- Contribute positively to a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable work environment

We’re looking for practical, safety‑focused team members who enjoy working outdoors. You’ll ideally bring:
- Experience or qualification in bushfire or land management
- Strong understanding of bushfire control or mitigation practices
- Ability to operate tools such as chainsaws or brush cutters
- Willingness to work as part of a small field crew
- Current driver’s licence (essential)
- National Police Clearance under 3 months (essential)
- Firefighting, chainsaw or traffic management tickets (desirable)
- 4WD or off‑road driving experience (desirable)
