About This Opportunity

The Senior Research Assistant provides high‑level technical research support and subject matter expertise across all stages of the research life‑cycle within the Mattingley Lab, based at the Queensland Brain Institute (QBI). Working within a highly collaborative, inquisitive and research‑intensive environment, this role supports cognitive neuroscience research through hands‑on experimental delivery, advanced data collection and analysis, and contribution to research outputs. The position plays a vital role in enabling rigorous, ethical and innovative human neuroscience research, supporting the lab’s ambition to generate globally relevant insights into brain function.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating aspects of participant recruitment, testing and data analysis within the Cognitive Neuroscience Laboratory at QBI.

  • Assisting in the design and conduct of major or complex experiments, including concurrent human behavioural testing and electroencephalography (EEG).

  • Applying and instructing others in advanced or specialist research techniques, data analysis and data curation under the supervision of senior staff.

  • Preparing figures and contributing to manuscript writing, reports and presentations as directed by the lab head.

This is a part time (5 hours per week), fixed‑term position up to December 2026 at HEW Level 5.

About You

You will bring strong technical capability, curiosity and attention to detail, alongside a collaborative and self‑motivated approach to research support. You will demonstrate:

  • Completion of a degree‑level qualification in experimental psychology, cognitive neuroscience or a related discipline.

  • Excellent practical research skills and experience in relevant research methodologies or techniques.

  • Demonstrated experience with coding experiments for human behavioural testing and undertaking statistical analyses.

  • Experience in the collection, analysis and curation of EEG data.

  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team, as well as independently on routine procedures.

  • Well‑developed oral and written communication skills, including the ability to contribute to research documentation and manuscripts.

  • A methodical, organised and proactive approach to managing tasks, equipment and research activities.

  • Previous experience in a similar research support role will be considered favourably.
