Shell Energy combines deep expertise and true innovation to help our electricity and gas customers navigate a rapidly changing market. We’re seeking people who bring the drive to succeed in providing the energy businesses and households need for today and tomorrow.
Shell Energy is seeking a Commercial Data Analyst based in Melbourne to deliver high‑impact insights that support pricing, growth and profitability in our retail energy business. This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded analyst who enjoys turning complex data into clear, actionable recommendations.
Reporting to the Commercial Strategy Manager, you will play a key role in analysing customer behaviour, pricing performance and competitor activity across the retail energy market. You’ll work at the intersection of strategy, pricing and data—helping shape commercial decisions in a fast‑moving, competitive environment.
With respect, integrity and honesty you will:
- Analyse customer churn by channel and product, identifying drivers of attrition and opportunities to improve retention
- Track and report on competitor pricing, product changes and market trends, highlighting emerging risks and opportunities
- Support pricing strategy through profitability, network tariff and scenario analysis
- Build dashboards and visualisations to communicate performance, trends and insights to senior stakeholders
- Partner closely with Commercial, Data Insights, Product, Sales and Finance teams to support decision‑making and strategy development
- Develop clear insights and recommendations in complex, ambiguous environments
Here’s what you’ll need to thrive in this role:
You’re a confident analyst who combines strong technical capability with commercial curiosity and clear communication. You enjoy collaborating with stakeholders and challenging assumptions with data‑driven logic.
- Excellent analytical skills with excellent attention to detail
- Advanced Microsoft Excel capability (including complex models and pivot tables)
- Experience using SQL and Python for data analysis and querying
- Ability to explain complex data to a wide range of audiences, including senior leaders
- A proactive mindset, intellectual curiosity and the ability to manage multiple priorities
- Experience in the energy industry (preferred but not essential)
- Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Economics, Data, or a related field or equivalent.
