The Intel Security Sector delivers technology-enabled services and mission software capabilities for defense and intel customers in the areas of cyber, logistics, security operations, and decision analytics.

The Intel Security Sector at Leidos currently has an opening for a Senior Data Engineer.  Are you a Data Engineer that likes to work with big data to produce analysis and visualizations? Would you like to support a major program advancing the state of the art in mission-focused big data analytics and predictive analytics? If so, you will be delivering advanced data engineering capabilities to push forward national security objectives, swiftly produce and analyze results, disseminate findings, and contribute to presentations with actionable intelligence insights. The successful candidate will work on projects to design, develop, and deploy big data analytic and visualization products to support DIA/NDOC OSINT production on behalf of the Defense Intelligence Enterprise (DIE).  This position will be located at one of our customer sites in Bethesda, MD; Reston, VA; or Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling, DC.

Responsibilities Include:  

  • Work closely with a tight-knit team of data scientists, as well as a larger team of software developers, network engineers, senior investigators, program managers, researchers, and data analysts to produce and clean large databases, provide data processing, ensure data quality, integrate large data with applications, prepare data visualizations and produce dashboards using state of the art tools, and AI/ML techniques.    

  • Apply software engineering and ETL principles to ensure data accuracy, quality, consistency, and scalability. 

  • Integrate COTS and customer-developed tools within existing data frameworks to meet operational and analytical requirements. 

  • Collaborate with DataOps teams to prepare, automate, and optimize data workflows for real-time analytics. 

  • Work on projects analyzing a variety of big data covering national security, cyber security, business intelligence, online social media, human behavior and more.    

  • Support multiple simultaneous projects and take open-ended or high-level guidance, independently and collaboratively.    

  • Provide data preprocessing, quality checks, data integration, and visualization creation. 

  • Develop dashboards with tools like Tableau or Power BI and apply AI/ML modules to structured and unstructured data analysis. 

Clearance Required: 

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI with Polygraph.   

Required Experience, Skills, and Education: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline.  

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in the field with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years.

  • Active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain and maintain TS/SCI with Polygraph.   

  • Due to the nature of the government contracts we support, US Citizenship is required.

  • Proven experience in designing and implementing data pipelines and architectures. 

  • Experience with data quality monitoring tools and processes. 

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Experience developing and maintaining enterprise-scale data pipelines in cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP). 

  • Experience implementing ETL/ELT processes and data orchestration frameworks. 

  • Strong knowledge of ETL processes and data integration techniques. 

  • Experience working with structured and unstructured data sources, including APIs, streaming platforms, and relational/non-relational databases. 

  • Experience designing data models to support AI, ML, and advanced analytics use cases. 

  • Experience contributing to data product design within a modern data platform architecture. 

  • Must have an active TS clearance and must be able to achieve a TS/SCI clearance with CI polygraph. 

  • Proficiency in one or more scripting languages such as R or Python. 

  • Experience working with a hybrid team of analyst, engineers, and developers to conduct research, and build and deploy complex, but easy-to-use algorithms and analytical platforms. 

  • Previous experience performing research and development in data analytics or big data.  

  • Track record of active learning and creative problem solving. 

  • Ability to analyze and assess software development or data acquisition requirements and determine optimum, cost-effective solutions. 

Preferred Experience, Skills, and Education: 

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline.  Or, as a substitute to the Master’s degree a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline and 5 years of related senior experience, for a total of 17 years. 

  • Minimum 12 years of experience in the field with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years. 

  • A significant share of your data analytics experience in direct support of military or intelligence community customers, demonstrating progressive technical development and mission-focused outcomes. 

  • Significant experience dealing with at least two of the following data classes: open source, publicly available information (PAI); forensic media (i.e., DOMEX); measurement and signatures intelligence (MASINT); or cybersecurity and cyber forensics.

  • Significant experience with knowledge graphs and related technology such as neo4j. 

  • Significant experience with databases such as SQL, NoSQL, and specifically Elasticsearch. 

  • Experience blending analytical methodologies and leveraging existing COTS/GOTS/FOSS tools in an unconventional manner.  

  • Familiarity utilizing containerization and container orchestration technology and approaches such as Docker and Kubernetes in development and deployment environments.  

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS/C2S). 

  • Familiarity with optimizing machine learning software to take advantage of GPUs. 

  • Experience creating dashboards and prototype web applications with technologies such as Kibana, Apache Superset, Streamlit, Gradio, Plotly Dash, Power BI, Tableua, etc.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $92,300.00 - $166,850.00
