Saginaw Valley State University is seeking a full-time (12 month) Assistant Athletic Trainer. In collaboration with the Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Sports Medicine and under the supervision of team physicians, the qualified candidate will deliver the highest standard of athletic healthcare care to all NCAA student-athletes participating within SVSU’s 20 athletic programs. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will be an integral part of the SVSU Sports Medicine Department and will serve with the highest levels of integrity and ethical standards.
JOB SUMMARY: Serves as a certified and licensed staff athletic trainer for SVSU intercollegiate student-athletes; provides daily athletic training services to assigned teams; supervises injury care, referral, and rehabilitation; travels to team events, attends home events, and attends daily workouts; is an active contributor of our sports medicine health care team.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serves as a Certified Athletic Trainer for SVSU teams as assigned.
Works under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director/Director of Sports Medicine.
Organizes and manages the care of student-athletes in consultation with SVSU Team Physicians.
Provides medical care, referral, and medical record keeping as assigned.
Communicates daily with coaching staff and strength and conditioning personnel.
Communicates with SVSU Athletic Academic Services staff to coordinate schedules and potential class/academic conflict for student-athletes with current health care conditions.
Assists in conducting drug testing to comply with SVSU’s and the NCAA’s Substance Abuse Control Program.
Assists with maintaining all athletic training equipment and facilities.
Understands and maintains confidentiality of HIPPA and FERPA protected information; handles information appropriately and professionally.
Upholds and works within the Policy and Procedures established for the SVSU Sports Medicine Department.
The Athletic Trainer will work within their scope of practice as outlined by the Athletic Trainers Board of the State of Michigan.
Demonstrated ability to perform all duties with accountability, reliability, respect, and professionalism while upholding the standards of the SVSU Athletic Department and Sports Medicine Department.
Provides daily evaluation and treatment of orthopedic and non-orthopedic injury conditions.
Scheduling, executing, and supervision of surgical and non-surgical rehabilitation programs.
Facilitates physician referrals.
Documents in electronic injury tracking system daily; including but not limited to treatments, progress notes, diagnostic imaging, and physician referrals.
Facilitates retrieval of outside medical records and documentation for record keeping.
Assists with daily facility organization, maintenance, cleaning, inventory, and athletic training room coverage.
Communicates with necessary athletic department staff regarding student-athlete injury conditions, limitations, needs, and accommodations.
Works with strength and conditioning department personnel to create alternate workout plans for injured student-athletes.
Other duties as assigned by the Director of Sports Medicine or the office of the Athletic Director.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in an Athletic Training Program or Entry Level Master's.
Certified Athletic Trainer by NATA Board of Certification.
Currently licensed or eligible for a state of Michigan License in Athletic Training (AT).
Currently certified or eligible for CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and professionally and project a positive attitude.
Strong organizational and time management skills and attention to detail in all work responsibilities.
Unwavering integrity and a commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards.
Proven reliability, accountability, and professional conduct in previous roles.
Willingness to travel and work irregular hours, nights, weekends and holidays as necessary.
Must be able to perform all duties with accountability, reliability, respect, and professionalism while upholding the standards of the SVSU Athletic Department and Sports Medicine Department.
Experience and ability to positively interact with all members of the campus community

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in athletic training or related discipline.
One or more years of certified athletic training work experience.
Professional, Olympic, and/or NCAA experience as a Certified Athletic Trainer.
Strong background in surgical and non-surgical rehabilitation for upper and lower extremity injuries.
Graston, IASTM, ART, CSCS, PES, CES or other additional certifications.
Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems.
Mentorship experience of athletic training students, graduate assistants, interns and/or staff members
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Working conditions include both indoor and outdoor sites, with the expectation and preparedness to work in those elements and any type of environment.
Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with the movement of injured individuals.
Work involves standing, bending, kneeling, demonstrating proper exercise techniques, and long periods of physical activity during events and training sessions.
Duties are generally performed inside but include outside seasonal activities.
Some weeknights and weekends, including intermittent travel, will be required.
All work associated with this role must be performed within the state of Michigan.
