Job description

Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe’s Design organization builds the product and brand experiences that millions of businesses and developers rely on. We’re a cross-functional, global organization composed of product designers, content designers, design researchers, design systems engineers, motion designers, and design program specialists. Our mission is to make economic infrastructure simple and accessible — and design plays a central role: making complex flows understandable, crafting clear product language, and building consistent systems that scale.

As AI becomes central to how product teams design, build, and iterate, we’re investing in tooling, platform services, and workflows that amplify designers’ impact. You will help shape that investment: partnering with design, engineering, research, and product teams to build and deliver reliable, safe, and useful AI-assisted tooling that improves designer productivity, creativity, and consistency across Stripe.

What you’ll do

Focused on accelerating the integration of AI into Design, as a Design Program Manager, you'll collaborate closely with designers, researchers, content designers, and design engineers working across Stripe’s brand, product, and marketing experiences. You'll build alongside them, and you will help them fundamentally change how they operate. Your measure of success is the number of workflows you've permanently transformed and the extent to which Design Stripes default to using AI as a part of their work.

Responsibilities

  • Identify and document the highest-leverage workflow transformations within Design's day-to-day work by deeply understanding their processes and outputs
  • Partner with designers to understand their workflow and responsibilities and imagine AI-powered tools and agents that left-shift and accelerate velocity
  • Build custom tools, agents, automations, and skills tailored to Design’s specific workflows and responsibilities
  • Enable and uplevel designers to build and iterate on their own tools over time, creating independence
  • Recognize patterns across Design and systematically scale what works — a tool built for one Designer should become reusable for their peers
  • Document every tool, playbook, and transformation pattern you build so the entire team can use each other's work
  • Share wins visibly across Design and with leadership to build momentum, inspire, and celebrate success
  • Track individual and cohort progress rigorously against a defined maturity model, moving every Design Stripe toward self-sustaining, AI-accelerated work
  • Prepare Designers for an agentic future — not just prompt writing, but designing, building, and overseeing autonomous, multi-agent workflows
  • Ensure all tooling meets Stripe’s expectations around quality, security, and performance.
  • Source and evaluate vendors when needed. Interface with legal, security, and procurement teams to onboard and pay vendors, including facilitating statements of work and negotiating business terms and budget.

Who you are

We're looking for people who have already lived the transformation they'll be driving for others. You've used AI to fundamentally change how you work — not as a novelty, but as your default operating mode.

  • You are a deep AI practitioner. You build agents, automations, and tools fluently. You don't just know what AI can do in theory — you've built things that changed how real work gets done. You can build in real time alongside the people you support.
  • You are an exceptional coach and communicator. You can meet people wherever they are. You create desire for progress, and you adapt your approach to each person.
  • You understand Design work. You either have direct experience in Design or can quickly learn the workflows, deliverables, tools, and pressures that are pertinent to Design Stripes. You know that understanding someone's work is a prerequisite to transforming it.
  • You are a pattern recognizer. When you build something that works for one person, you immediately see how it applies to others. You think in systems, not one-off solutions.
  • You are high-caliber, persistent, and versatile. Your skills and experience are valuable across the company. You're the kind of person who could succeed in many roles at Stripe.
  • You bias toward action and speed. You'd rather show someone a working proof-of-concept on their own deliverable today than present a polished deck about what's theoretically possible next quarter. You ship useful, incremental improvements while advancing toward longer-term platform goals.
  • A champion of “working in the open” who communicates early and often through rapid prototyping, open experimentation, and frequent “show and tell” sessions to drive transparency and alignment across the organization.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and evolution. This is a new team building a new operating model. The playbook will be rewritten as we learn. You thrive in that environment.

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in design thinking, product design, user experience, design engineering, or program management, and experience partnering with design teams
  • Demonstrated, hands-on experience building AI-powered tools, agents, automations, or workflows that transformed real work processes (not just using AI as a chatbot — building with it) for designers, researchers, creative teams, or product teams.
  • Track record of coaching, teaching, or enabling others — formally or informally — with evidence that people you've helped actually changed how they work
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences and adapt your style to different learners
  • Comfort working across multiple workstreams and relationships simultaneously (you'll be supporting Design teams at varying stages of their AI journey)
  • “Product builder” mindset to solve the “last mile” problem: transforming standalone AI experiments into polished, production-ready products that prioritize discoverability and ease of use.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with design and research tooling ecosystems (Figma plugins, design system management, plugin APIs).
  • Proficiency with AI development tools and platforms (e.g., Claude, Claude Code, Codex, custom agent frameworks, API integrations, workflow automation tools)
  • Experience with change management, organizational transformation, or large-scale enablement programs
  • Experience building and scaling internal tools, templates, or playbooks that were adopted beyond your immediate team
